I have depression and I play poker to improve my life. When I'm playing, I forget everything and I feel good!
What is your opinion about people who play poker and have depression?

I'm assuming from your photo your an empathetic sort of person and you are satisfied from the company and then being able to apply yourself around so many people makes you feel good, as long as you recognise that need and don't confuse it with the gambling emotions/responses you can continue playing. Don't get carried away and search for more though what your experiencing is as good as it will get.

this is about the manipulation facebook does to promote lower vibratory states, he says something in there about a negative response from gambling that people will continue to seek (consistently losing players).
Might be worth a watch.

using poker to help with depression? sounds like using alcohol to make you a better driver.... im a fairly level headed person and i find bad beats or suck outs stick with me for a day at least. i would not want to have depressive tendencies as well. with all that said i hope you are able to work out what you need to and if you ever need to chat feel free to pm me!
after these words there is nothing to say

As anyone, but I do sometimes poker, sometimes depression, especially when I spent 4-5 hours at the tournament and got prizes.

Hello friend, I think you should seek help, as you say, poker only makes you forget, but it is not a definitive remedy.
I think you should do other things outdoors, such as playing football, running, doing activities with friends, and play poker a few hours a day.

It's nice that you forget about things. But you might lose money and become even more depressed... I would watch out with that.

But if you're playing freerolls and for free and such that's good

Maybe you should set rules for yourself and put deposit limits so you can control it, And maybe also see a specialist to maybe help find your problem that causes the depression.

It's a good sport and it makes you exercise your mind, it's a good game for all kinds of people and if it's doing well for you, keep playing.

praying for you brother. Hope you get well. Guess many people use poker to escape lifes problems, but what I've found is, whatever problems I try to escape, they always catch up in the end you have to face them eventually. Anyway, think about what you want to accomplish out of life and make steps towards that. Stay blessed.

I understand exactly what you mean.

Sometimes we can take life a little too seriously, and games are a good distraction to get away from the pain of real life.

You can really get lost in the game of Poker. There are so many things to learn, every time you play it's different. You have to learn how to play opening hands, your positioning, how to play other players.

It can be fun to learn and fun to play but just remember to not be too invested in the game, as it is just a game.

As long as you're not playing with money that you absolutely need, I think that you're doing just fine my friend.

Remember to take breaks and not take beats too serious.

Best of luck at the tables and with your health friend :)

Your results will only be as good as the therapists, so be very wary of that.
Holotropic breath work, TRE (trauma release exercises), Wim Hof and anything by Stanislav Grof will help you understand.

poker is just a distraction from depression. although when you get to withdraw some of your winnings, it may help with the depression (money is most of the time helpful)

Distraction from reality in the game is not correct. If we find peace, the joy in the game is temporary. Do not forget about reality. Communicate more with friends, walk in the fresh air. It really helps.

If you feel it helps keep going. You can ask someone close to you to watch how it affects you. Whatever other says I know poker can help a lot stabilize the mood swings, add self-confidence. Teaches you to accept defeats, your bad decisions, bad beets but also very crearly shows the effects of learning the game. I lost my child more than 3 years ago. Thanks to poker I rise and affter 3 years of ,, waiting for death" I finnaly began to come back to life. I tried a psychiatrist, psychologist, herbalist and many more nothing helped a few only worsened my condition. When I started to be intrested in poker my fiance day by day saw my health improvement and in times of doubt convince me to continue playing. Now after about 6 months I finally want to live again I have plans, goals and dreams. I wish you the same.

Poker can be very dangerous if you can not control yourself,it can cause you lose everything you have if you become addicted to it.i think you should play it more for fun than playing it for big expectations.you can win a big amount of money but if you don't use it wisely you can lose it all again in a very short of time if you have a bad day or if you get a few bad beats. So i think micro stakes poker or MTTs are the best to enjoy the poker and get reasonable prices.

Bad mix, if a person plays poker and has problems with depression, she has to immediately stop playing poker and take care of her depression. Poker is a game that involves a person's emotional lot and to play poker you have to be calm and seek to have a solid mind with good thoughts.

for that there is science, put yourself in the hands of a professional, not charlatans l witches who just want to cheat.

You need objective methods, not illusions that can harm you in the long run.

Poker can cause even stronger depresion. For example you start tilting and depresion will come back even stronger.

Hey, this is a very sensitive issue. It’s a good thing that poker is your escape and happy place and you can forget about everything else while playing, but like fellow CC members have said here, please be careful as a couple downswings and badbeats can trigger an emotion of animosity towards the game and hence poker, even if for the immediate moment can cause your happy place to be that no longer. Luckily CC offers a lot of free rolls so you don’t nexessrily have to play with any real money, but if you do be careful!

Don't mask the problem, get rid of it

I've been clinically depressed and know that you need to find and fight the cause of the depression. If I have an incurrable illness and I take drugs so I don't feel the pain, it is not a cure but I just might end up with a drug problem. Please be careful that you don't compound your situation with a gambling addiction too (easy to get when you are weakened by depression).

I can understand why it give you the feeling you`re problems are away, as poker really takes your focus. But that won`t help in the long run I fear. Like some people suggested you should seek, if you don`t already have, professional help. Which of-course does not have to mean you can`t enjoy poker in general. Poker is much fun that much most will agree on here, I think :)

I am sure poker is a game of good mood, so when you feel bad you do not need to start the game.
