answer if you have a real life poker story that changed your life for the better or vice versa only with you or people you know personally
Poker has definitely changed my life.
in 2014 I moved from
canada back to the UK. Although I'd only been away for 5 years, life had moved on. Most of the close friendships I had had in the past, too had moved on.
But whilst I was in Canada, I had hosted a few poker nights with workmates. It had brought us closer together and I'd wondered if I could replicate that magic. So I hosted a Friday night poker and invited folks from my past and from work.
fast forward almost 10 years and our poker group has an established core of players. We play live once or twice a month and play every Friday online (if we're not together). The poker group has expanded its horizons and most of us (7 or 8 of us) split off to create a golfing group during Covid when that was the only way we could get together safely.
Later, we also added a board games night.
Finally, we've got a special activities event chat where we organise other things. Pub crawls, go-karting, day at the races....
So now I play boardgames with a couple of the guys 4 times per month....golf with several of them 6 times per month and poker with them 4-5 times per month plus a special activity.
A few of us are also thinking of doing an entrepreneurs club to see if we can figuree out a way to make a Million pounds each so we can retire and do the golf/poker/games/activities on a permanent basis.
In our group, we have IT guys (systems guy, robotics guy, database guy, accountant, desktop guy, developers, plasterer, Amazon resellers, project manager... so we have the skills to develop that killer
App... just need the kernel/killer idea and we'll be off to the races!
Making friends when you're older isn't an easy task. But this group of friends, borne out of a common love of poker has become my lifeline.
Cheers,
JT
