I think the play chips can be beneficial, but there are a lot of poor players making poor plays. However, there are a lot of poor players chasing straights, flushes, and runner-runner draws at the micro stakes as well.
If someone is playing cards or any
gambling, they would be wise if they are playing with an amount they are willing to lose. The more willing you are to sacrifice your buy in, the more likely you might be to chase or make other poor poker decisions. Its real easy not to care about losing a dollar or two, so those stakes might not be all that much better than a 10K or 100K play chip buy in. Those play chips took some time and effort to earn and could have more "value" to the player than a buck...
