My personal poker challenge

Decided to play some very small buy in MTTs just to break up the cash games. (played a cash game on the side as well).

$1 buy in 45 players finished 3rd for $7.20
$2 buy in 183 players finished 24th for $4.20

Not bad for a self admitted "poor" tourney player. Although I certainly think its the patience aspect - rather than playing the cards.
I know I said I was going to play only cash. but just felt like something different. Played only solid hands and it worked well to remind me on the importance of patience. One wrong move in a tourney and its game over - even if you played every other hand spot on.

Must admit I started to wane after three hours. But I would never stay in a cash game that long.

I play on absolute poker.

And RE buy in its around $14-$17 where the max is $20. (unusual for 5c10c)

And its a random amount like $14.67 or $16.33

Update with the job. The manager that interviewed me said that he would have called me by the weekend. So after a few calls over the last couple of days (leaving him messages) and him not getting back to me; I am thinking either he is still thinking and maybe seeing more before deciding who to bring back for a second interview or he just cannot be bothered to contact me.

Either way its just damn rude not to call back when you say you will.

Written that off for now and continue to send out letters. I am on probation with my current job which is great as the notice period is only ten days - great for me being available for starting a new job. Bit concerned that I do not find somewhere withing the next month or so - after which I will be required to give 25 days notice.

Anway, I plan to push on with that.

Heres the poker update. Was off work today and played a lot. As it happens the decent growth in BR was only a result of evening play. Achieved nothing during the day as I couldnt catch a cold. Evening it evened out and was making sets and all sorts.

One hand I raised pre flop with AQs got 4 callers. As it happened being first to act on the flop was a blessing.

Flop came down KJT two hearts. I just bet out hard for about $1.20 got one caller and the next raised to $5 then the last player folded. I thought he was either flushing or had two pair - either way I had the nuts so just needed to avoid a few certain cards to take the pot.

I pushed all in and he called (other player that called $1.20 folded)

He had AK.

I took the pot.

Hey all.

Just to update. I am still grinding away and going well.

Getting a bit caught up in it all though so taking a week off to get a well deserved rest and to focus on job work.

Will read up on some poker literature and watch some 50c/$1 during the week

Working on starting my bankroll. Started online poker about 2 weeks ago, I started with 20 bucks. I am at 17 now.

Good luck to you in your quest! Exactly what you're describing is what I would like to attempt as soon as I have a steady job as well. A little bit of extra income while having fun as well. I admire your discipline, and what seems to be a very good run that you're on. I don't think its a coincidence at all. Keep up the good work, good luck with the job search, and keep us all updated.
