I play a lot of online NL Holdem sit & go’s but I’ve heard live poker is generally easier to beat. What’s everybody’s thoughts on this? Is this true?

I've never played live to have an opinion either way but hope to one day. I have also heard others say live is easier but not really sure I understand why.

I’m def gona try it soon although I think the overall dynamic might be much more intense than online, at least at first

From my experience, live poker(casino/ private games) tends to attract more recreational players or just people with money that want to gamble - still, a softer field doesn't necessarily mean that you'll win every session and it's just 'easy money'; plus, if you move from online where you were multi-tabling, this games might be too slow for you... Online, you can have more options of games(find opponents at different stakes easier at any hour of the day), you can play a much higher volume and you can stop/ resume your sessions whenever you want(especially if you grind Cash games). To make it short, IMO, you can find positive and negative sides for both and in the end it's up to each individual, so I'd advise you to go and give it a try and see how a few live sessions go and if you don't feel comfortable and/or the results aren't what you've expected you can just stick with online poker... GLGL at the tables $$$

There is no difference between live or online poker, it depends on your level of mastery of poker strategies and skills and reading the opponents at the table.
Good luck

in my opinion
I think live is more difficult
even because there is much more pressure on the player than online
among other factors that I could mention in many lines

I never did play live poker in a casino but: I am talking about tournament poker online here.
The game is programmed; as the blinds get bigger and bigger, to eliminate the most players in order to get to the final table. The closer to the money, the more bad beats you get. And even though you have been a chip leader all through the game you may lose all your chips on the bubble.

For some reason I tend towards thinking that live tourney must be better.

Awesome reply thanks, I only ever play one game at a time online so I’m pretty good at not getting bored when I’m card dead and can usually avoid going on tilt etc. I’m itching to try live although I’m not sure how much I’d give away tellwise, suppose I could still wear a mask at the mo!

I have never played poker live, I have not had the opportunity to do so, but online I play a lot, and I think I like it much more because I can play from anywhere and several tables at the same time and when I can, there are many more advantages than live, but everyone draws his own conclusions.

Generally, yes. Loads of recreational players live. There are comfy seats, not stools like at the blackjack Tables and you don't have to stand like at a Craps table. Pretty girls bring free drinks, and the Poker rooms are a welcome relief from the chaos on the main floor. Lots of TVs for watching the Big Game (distractions are good). They come for the entertainment, and if they get lucky, that's the cherry on top. Rec players bring their electronic toys with them, and that's always good for your bottom line, as are free drinks (for them, not you).

Actually it isn't. ('programmed')

Interesting that you heard live is easier. I have more sucess live, but I've never though of it as easier. Live is quicker and I like to have more time to think about things, which is maybe why I have more success live. But I wouldn't say it was easier in general.

Hi.
I think that live play is more difficult than online. Although I rarely play live, the online game is more comfortable for me.
Good luck.

I don't think so :), live poker is much harder than online, just think of the difference in hands played which are much less live than online :)

Playing someone from across the table is much better/easier than playing an avatar, imo. They literally can't escape the confrontation, in other words they can't just sit out to fold, they have to do it in front of you and everyone else at the table. They can't throw a fake turd or a horseshoe at you, legally that is. It's just better since people are forced, to a degree, to be civil... In theory, anyway. Brick-n-mortar for sure. (y)(y)(y)

It depends on what kind of opponents you find.
Watch who calls you to the game live and never carry a lot of money with you.
Without your own team at the table in most cases you will be a scapegoat.
Forget live broadcasts at the start. You will never get there. That area is reserved for sponsored actors who lure large masses.

I've played a decent amount of tournaments both live and online and I'd say you can use a 10X rule for determining live competition vs. online. For instance, if you go to your local casino and play a $70 daily you'll probably find players equivalent in skill to a $7.50 online game. the big difference (as has been mentioned) is that there are more people who are just there to gamble, most likely casino gamers who wanted to try poker instead of roulette for a change.

I haven't played as much cash, but based on the few live sessions I've played it's a similar skill gap 200NL live is like 10-25NL online (maybe a bit worse). One big difference live is everyone loves limp/calling vs. raising first in. You can often 6-7X raise over 2-3 limpers and still find calls from connected cards ,off suit broadway, etc...

The big downside of live is the massive rake taken from each buy-in vs online. For MTTs, most online clients charge 10% rake (GGPoker is 5%), whereas with dealer fees and other charges you might be looking at 20-30% live. If you do play live tournaments keep an eye on how much of your buy-in makes it into the prize pool or how much your hourly is in cash. The vig for smaller games can make them unprofitable, even with a soft field, but it's also a lot of fun if you're interested in socializing with people while you play.

Online I believe it's tougher than live due to the higher hands per hour you usually play and because you rely your decision based on stats. I'm fan on live poker however I play both.

Live is quite different from online.
Live you study the opponents, feel how your game is going, and also have a good conversation with the other players.
On LINE it is 60% your study, your mentality and your instinct and 40% lucky.

Live games are more profitable for me. I ever feel very stronger on live games. Live games do already help me a lot.

I personally love live poker, some persons generally take it more seriously and I feel like I have more success with it. I am guessing that it might be that I play smaller stakes online and so people take more chances and are more aggressive. I also feel that with live games I am more patient.
