In cash games, when do you leave the table?

Do you have a 'formula' for when you get up and call it a night?

I have a gf that is a casino's wet dream. All she knows how to do is play until her money is gone (table games and slots ... not poker). She can be up $1K, and all that means is that she is going to be sitting there longer.
Casino games are nothing but pricey entertainment for anyone, but for her it's always REALLY expensive entertainment. She has no clue how to walk when she's ahead.

From the beginning of my real money playing (a few months ago) I have always felt like I should have some kind of break point where if I get to a certain point (ie double your buy in or whatever) I cash out and build the bankroll.

Depending on luck and maybe real loose opponents, it's not hard to imagine you could reach such a set point in 5 minutes. Then what? Bolt?

Doesn't seem right.

Oh poker wizards, please tell me the criteria you use to decide to quit any given game.

I leave when the game is not "good" anymore. If the fish leave, if I am tired, hungry, whatever the case may be. Whatever you do, dont leave just because you doubled up or something like that. You are leaving a game, that you are winning at, and probably will keep winning at, just because you are winning?? LOL Play until you either are not as good as your opponents (ie the bad ones left) or you are too tired, hungry, tilting, etc.

Edit: obviously that is for poker. Why ever play casino games? You can just send me your money if you either dont need it or dont want it...

What was mentioned above, when your winning, only leave when the deck becomes ice cold.
Or leave (as I had to do a couple times) when a gambler (all-in EVERY hand type) sits down at the table because to be quite honest, those players scare my BR.

I hear ya. The gf is the one that wastes her money on that stuff. It's a losing proposition and not for me.

With respect to my thinking on walking away from the table, that's probably the rookie coming through loud and clear. It's probably a function of viewing the game of poker more as gambling and less a skill game, combined with a lack of confidence. Hence the pressure to walk while ahead.

If you're using proper BR management, then how can these players scare your BR? There is no better opponent in the world, than one who goes allin every hand.

Decide beforehand how long you want to play for, and play for that long. Stop before that if you feel you're prone to making mistakes, or if you otherwise feel that you're no longer playing well.

Good point. If you are winning and doubled up (as example) why you would have to leave the table if you are in a good gust of wind?

If the fish leave, then try to move your boat and find him.

Since i get to a good card room (aka legal casino one) once a quarter, I typically go until I am tired, or until I feel like I am going to start making stupid mistakes. Also, even though it may take 6 hrs of drive time to get to the casino, if all of a sudden I don't feel it, say tired, or something, then I go get a massage at the spa or catch a show or just play some Black Jack, until I feel it. I don't really set a limit versus what I am willing to lose, cause then when I sit down, that would be on my mind...
