Ok, so a few weeks ago i turned 18 and decided to join a poker league which my friend already goes to. I went to a game last night for the first time, bare in mind this was my first ever poker game with real people ( i only ever played poker online before this) so i didnt expect to do that well.

i came 12th out of 24 which in my opinion is pretty good for a first timer, plus i was shitting my self and probably gave all the signs that i had good or bad cards. I was playing against experianced players who had all played poker for at least 5 years.

anyway, im going again tonight so wish me some luck :) thanks

the free poker leagues ,that are held in bar and grills are a great place to get live action experience and win prizes, before swimming in the deep pool. good luck and tell us how you do.

it was a free poker league at a pub like allndave said, so there was no money involved. i gained 275 points out of a possable 1000 that night, the following night (9th jan) i came 8th out of 25. well chuffed with that, i got onto the final table and gained 450 points.

if i keep this up i could be in the top 48 at the end of this month, if i come 8 or higher in the top 48s i get a prize.

i got pocket rockets on the night i came 8th and i was so nervus not to mess it up my hands were shaking so i had to hide them. blinds were 200-400, i put a 500 bet before the flop, i had 2 callers. flop dealt 3,5,6. possable stright so i put 1000 into the pot, one caller, the other one folded. turn was dealt, it was a 7.so thats 3,5,6,7 i had no idea what to do and if i checked the other guy would know i dont have a stright and would have raised me. so i had to put a continuation bet in of 2000. after a few moments he folded thinking i must have a stright, he showed 2 kings!
and guess what, i didnt show my aces. so he didnt know if i was bluffing or not haha.

this guy had been playing poker all his life , so it felt good to win that hand.

i'll keep you updated, poker game tonight (11th jan)

wish me luck :)

I played my first real tournament a little while in a little bar in Corvallis. Forty dollar buy in, about seventy people. Someone went all in on an open ended straight draw after the turn, and surprise surprise, I got outdrawn. Forty dollars is not a small amount of money for me, so I'm not going back for awhile.
