When I was twelve I would play poker with my parents on Saturday nights before Gunsmoke came on the television. Westerns were big on TV back then, and poker games were a frequent part of westerns, so since I already loved to play cards it was a no brainer. :) I guess that westerns had quite an effect on me, because another even bigger part of them was pretty much everyone carrying a sixgun. When I turned 21, the age in our state to purchase a handgun, I bought a sixgun like this one. :)

They work great at poker games too. Just placing it on the table in front of you tends to keep all the other players "honest". LOL!!

that Cool!
first time I read a report talking about this type of influence eheheh GG

I started playing poker 11 years ago. My friends played online in the evenings and I was also interested. A lot of time has passed since then, but poker remains my favorite hobby that brings me fun and money.

Have you thought about becoming a professional?

On the internet I first got started. I was always curious and wanted to try to play poker and the internet gave me easy access. And now it's my serious hobby. I learn life from it. It's like figure of life. I can apply the lessons from poker to my life and other things also.

$2 home games 30 years ago....i had no idea how to play, and was the fish.

started watching friday night poker on uk tv in the late 90s...learning...more home games...started winning.

1st online experience...around 2002...pokerroom,com...as a depositor...won enough to buy a flight to india when my K6 sooted ...spades...hit the river flush against pot odds...
in 2003 got spanked for $500 or so by people who actually knew what they were doing... vowed NEVER to deposit again...never have.

i didnt really start learning poker until 2008..,.at the railbirds poker forum...played regularly against the same opponents....learnt how to take notes and properly remember hands... Read Brunson, Harrington, started actually learning from players better than me, rather than just losing to them.

forever learning...tuning my game according to my own style of play.

30 years?
WOW kk
that time was unable to obtain the knowledge that exists on the internet today ..
what was it like at that time?

To become a professional, you have to work hard every day, and I do not have enough free time. Instead, I have a favorite job and a favorite hobby. Therefore, life is wonderful. :)

thanks for asking brother / sister...how old are you...I'm 54

life before the internet...how on earth did we manage..?? :)...i was brought up in Yorkshire England...we didnt have a fridge...we had a pantry...which is a small room near the kitchen made of stone to keep things cold. in the 70s when i was a young boy, coal for the fire was still delivered by horse and cart...yes really.

well..we had these things called books...but i never read 'em...didnt start taking the game seriously til 2008...and then i had the now no/longer Railbirds forum.

I watch vids now of course...both Polk for my cash game and Negreanu for my tourney game.

the best teaching in the world is learning from your own mistakes...but without doyle and super system1 it would have taken me a lot longer.

and now...i can do this :)...just finished the tourney 15 mins ago.

A friend told about poker. I read the rules, registered for pokerstars and started playing freerolls. The deposit was only $ 10. He promoted up to $ 150, after which he withdrew $ 120. This is how I started)

and did you manage to be profitable during those 4 years?

In fact, for the first two years, I only spent money on the game. My bankroll only started to increase after I became a member of the CardsChat community.

My acquaintance with poker started in 2015. It all started very simple, on some website I came across this game, although there were play chips, and I was so lucky that I filled a huge stack of more than 10,000,000 chips. Of course I didn't understand anything how to play and all that. Then my friend advised me to download poker stars and play for real money. After downloading PS and making a deposit of 10, I started playing. However, this amount quickly ended and I began to study strategies and all other details about poker. It turned out to be very entertaining and at the same time difficult. Poker does not stand still and to match you need to study a lot and only then you will get a positive result.

As a child, I was interested in different types of games, including card games, and learned the rules of 5 card poker (one of the names is Russian poker). Later, as a student, he visited a casino and learned to play poker against a dealer. As I got older, I learned to play many types of poker and was looking for the opportunity to play poker over the Internet as a hobby. They showed me the PS website and this was the beginning of my semi-professional journey)).

Good!
I always found it hard to play poker with 5 cards, it has to be very good to play without knowing whether you are winning or losing kk

I started poker in 2010.
I was after a game that I could play at any time, use my intelligence and maybe win some money. I was supposed to spend some time and ended up staying a long time. LOL

Hello Airles17
I believe it was in college when I saw friends playing pokerstars. Soon I started playing and it has been a very good hobby. We have a group of friends who meet once a week to play. In this pandemic, poker has become a therapy.
Hugs to all

I saw an advertisement for poker on TV and became interested. In general, tournament poker is recognized as a sport in Ukraine.
