I would need 1 million in a fixed rate investment.

Not sure if I would play much poker after that... Proably stick to music instruments, outdoor sports and etc.

Easy answer.....looking to retire soon and be OMC putting on the youngsters on tilt...since I will have the discretionary income.....and a separate middish.... 5 figure dedicated poker roll.....

But to answer the question $146 K gross per year US dollars for Texas and this is adjusted for 3% per year inflation rate.....Based upon our portfolio. and asset allocation.......as we are very conservative in our AA.....as we glide path to retirement.....

After 42 years in the oil patch....let's play some cards.....

Will be in the Sr's in Vegas to play in my 1st Seniors...in June of 18....and we will be there for a week before and after....and I will be gambooooling.....come and get some....

Short term....heading in to Texas for a month in a week....will be playing Winstar, Tulsa, OK City, Shreveport, Baton Rouge and Lake Charles....lets gamboool.... I love to bust the young pro wanna be's......

It's all good fun for me....as I work in a shiite hole location for 10 months per year.....so when we come home - we come to have fun....money does not matter.....

But sometimes I go on a run and ruin the GTO brainiacs bankrolls....and when I lose a few grand......Reload !

Let's gamboool.....

I think $1000 a month would be enough for me so I would quit my job in this case and play poker only.

When I would quit my job and play poker

For me I wouldn't need enough money to live for the rest of my life but I would like to have about a year's worth of needed income set aside for living along with a bankroll that more than comfortably supported playing at 5/10 at least before I considered quiting and only playing poker. So, as far as money needs I'd say I could comfortably live for a year with 50k. Then add my loaded bankroll(most experts recommend 40 buy ins) so 40x2000= 80,000k. Add a little extra cushion let's double that say 150k for bank roll plus 50k living money and I'd say I give living off of poker a shot. I would keep a tight watch on my budget. If I ever dropped below 100k in my poker account I would start looking for work again.

I think the right answer is debt free, and decent sized bankroll. For me I would want the security of being mortgage and loan free, to really give it a go

300 grand and the right investments would probably be enough to give yourself a decent income even if you have a really bad run of poker. You can always live on Kraft dinner for awhile.

I think that it is not necessary to leave permanent work, for poker, until you get to the level of live tournaments and do not win them! you will not be able to survive on tournaments on the Internet!

I do not quit poker for the sake of poker. It's a hobby and it's hard to make good money on it.

I think you should always have a safe income. If you make a lot of many, buy some propery and rent it, or buy a small company, open a coffe shop or something. Thats what i did. I opened a bar and always have a safe income.

As one player said, the above mentioned, 20-30 thousand dollars, this in my country will not be enough. I think that to forget about the hard work, I need a million ... maybe I overdid the stick, but still ...

I wouldn't treat poker as my main source of income. I'd probably rely on 8% dividends so about 1 million + mortgage paid off.

At my level and considering my play style i will not quit job for poker even i would have a big bankroll.I find poker not to be a safe and continuous source of income.

1000 dollars a month would be excellent. In my country this is a large sum. But if I received a thousand a month, I think I would immediately want more)

Maybe win once the Sunday million or the similar tournaments in 888 or ACR , it would be a good step towards the general plan and target to quit job , won't it ??

If the normal Sunday millionprize is not enough then the Anniverssary 1 million gurranteed to the winner :D I tried to get an entrance ticket to it last time , played many sats , but failed :( , next time I will be successfull :) I hope the fact that pokerstars failed to get all the money that guaranteed last time in the anniversarry don't have as a result not to repeat this anniverssary again .
