No problems on that front in fact, the wife sends me to the poker room sometimes to get out of her hair. The more I act like a 'wanna hang out and do family stuff ' husband, the more i find myself playing live.
Actually the wife digs poker and players in it, but doesnt like playing it. Tookher to the cardroom once and she said she never wants to go in that place again, it was the most tense shit she has ever felt. And as far as online, her opinion is, I aint playing no game for over an hour LOL (how can you sit and play one MTT for over three hours)

This negative attitude from her could happen with anything you get interested in..Chances are it's not just over poker..and that would be a real azz kicker after she becomes the WIFE...gl

Lucky for me, my fiance doesn't like playing poker at all & doesn't seem to mind when I go to the casino to play. However, I get the feeling she wishes I cashed more LOL :eating:

Think it may be in direct relationship with win/lose ratio If Im winning shes happy and if im not Im wasting my time. Either way Im wasting my time but the key is to keep it in check and spend some time doing shit with her. That way when something important comes up that you really want to play she is more understanding knowing that you spent time with her doing quality stuff or if not quality shit she enjoyed...Now If she complains not just about poker but anything you choose to do that does not interest her ...you have a whole nother problem on your hands ...and good luck with that. I had that problem but now am happily divorced.

I guess how important is poker to you? If it means a lot and you are under 25, I'd say concentrate on poker. 3 reasons: First you probably won't be with that girl in 10 years time anyway. I'm not saying dump her, but just don't care so much about her whining. Second, when you're younger you can learn things faster and easier (when you get older this won't come so easy), so work on your game. Additionally, at the table your mental acuity for making decisions, remember betting patterns, tells and having the mental endurance for long sessions usually won't be as good when you get older. Third, when you get older, you may have more financial obligations or too many other responsibilities which won't afford you as much time or opportunity to play. So soak up your poker prime time while you can.
If you are say 26 to 30 you could go either way I suppose. If you're 31+ then personally I'd acquiesce a bit to her if you really love her and think there's a future between you two. This maybe sacrilege to say on this site but poker is just a game, unless of course that's how you earn your living.

My wife never bitches about poker, mainly because once she bitches about it, i gently remind her about the various holidays we have had, and the lovely gadgets that surround her are complimets of my hobby.

Obviously, if you're treating her to nice things with poker funds she won't mind you playing....same applies to boyfriends, husbands, parents or kids for that matter.
Albeit, the one time you're in a downswing you will never forget it and will have to make up for it three-fold!

On the other hand, poker has a strong mathematical component and older people are often much more adept at mental arithmetic. I was well into my twenties before I ever used a pocket calculator (they were new then, and less common). To this day, I routinely help younger colleagues at work by giving them the answer to problems which involve calculation while they are still looking around for a computer.

If there is something anything you are passionate about your significant other should always stand by you `100%. I know if my girl was into poker or something she could progress and get better at and has a chance to succeed I would never bitch. That being said there is a line and you have to be progressing.

this is hilarious, simply because last night got in a huge argument with my gf about this, I think they just want you to stfu about it and not talk poker all the time, I know my gf hates it but I tell her will you hate me if I cash 20k or something, nope I wouldn't be mad but you never do lol. she hates when I talk about going crabbing to or fishing. girls are soft! lol JK just include them I guess I just tried to avoid playing poker when we are together our work schedules work perfectly now where I can play for 8 hours give or take and then we hangout for whenever then I leave to work.

I have had problems with this for about 8 years now. I have had 3 serious relationships. Two of the three went sour because of poker. The first gf loved it when I was winning money but hated it if I wasn't. I would even wait for her to go to bed to play. She would still complain.
The second relationship my gf just hated it. I would play while she was at work or sleeping and she would still complain. I bought her stuff even gave her money to get off my case. She still complained. I was doing very well at the time.
Now my gf doesnt care if I play. She actually buys me poker books. The only thing is that I cant play while she is around. So its hard to get some hands in.
However I am trying to get back into it due to some health issues.
Lesson I have learned is most chicks hate poker.

Depends what you are looking for in a relationship. If you value poker more than time with your girlfriend then you need a different girlfriend. How would you like it if your girlfriend valued her time spent with some hobby she enjoyed instead of time spent with you? A relationship will only work when the scales are in balance. As soon as she doesn't understand your time spent playing poker for whatever reason then the relationship will be in trouble unless you can openly discuss the issue. If you cannot discuss the issue without feeling judged and then reassessing your values than it is time to move on.

From a ''girls'' perspective, we both play poker and sit down together and play ( different games ) i would never admit this to the bloke but he is a better player than i am ( more aggressive ) so i learn alot from him, as he does me ( patience ) the only thing i hate is sitting at the same table as him whether it be live or online, he is so competitive with me he plays me and not his cards, almost always to his detriment,lol
