thats true. i guess i'm just complaining cuz i got sucked out on so many times lol. This is the first time i've played at their games and i have played at very fishy games where i won money just by waiting for big hands. Its just that playing against more experienced guys (based on the games i've played) seems to be more fun since u can't really play ABC poker.

I attended this home game at a cousin's friends house. And my god were their so many fishes. it was like 20 dollar buy ins and i ended up losing like 70 bucks. What is killing me is did i really play bad or is it just the ppl im playing with? I mean seriously. I consider myself very good at poker but in this game, their was absolutely nothing i couldve done to win. These guys were calling my ALL INs with like K 4 and 2 3. The one time i get a good hand was KK and the guys calls with AA. It was unbelievable. Are the fishes THIS bad at the casinos or is it just home games??

If you're going in with hands better than k4 and 23 why are you complaining? this is the outcome you want

home games I never bluff, just try to stay social and play monsters. I have around 8 people at my weekly home game, and me and this one other guy are the only ones who are good at poker. We have finished 1-2 3 out of the last 4 times. When I get heads-up with him, then I'll start playing my usual game.

About the same thing happens in our home, me and about 2 others are the only ones that know much about poker, and were not that good haha.

Against weak players you must play sparingly. Bluff do not work against them. You need play normal and respect theirs bets. They are calling station.

I'm sure there are fish everywhere. I can't personally speak for casinos, but for home games we've had a few show up before as well. Ultimately, its like anything else, if you're playing correctly you'll win in the long run with these people. In fact, last time we played, we had a guy show up who would be like " oh i was just bluffing i don't have anything". Then we would all say... actually you have a straight. For a while I thought he was hustling everyone, but then he went all in with K A 2 3 4 thinking he had a straight and we had to explain to him that the A is the only card that can 'go both ways'.

Sucks, but keep playing with them as it will turn profitable.

It depends how many you have at the table, if there are 4 or 5 guys calling everything and even worse bluffing frequently as well, you're gonna be in a world of hurt, unless you are really catching cards...I like to play at a table with alot of SMART loose aggressive players, but I do not like playing with 4 or 5 loose passive players or DUMB loose aggressive players...this is the reason why I agreed with the poster last year who said he felt worse off with 2 calling stations in a 3 handed game than vs. Gus Hansen and Tom Dwan...at least you know those guys are usually going to fold 3rd pair and not river you by making two pair...I have much less confidence in Joe Blow who calls 180$ to the river and catches his 4 to make 2 pair.

What you are missing here is that the vast majority of the time the fish doesn't make his miracle catch. We remember the times that they do more than we remember all of the times that we win because the win seems "normal" to us. When you have more of them calling it creates bigger pots to win in situations where we have an equity edge. Sure you will get sucked out on often but the huge pots that you take down when you win will make up for it. Its not how many pots you win, its how much money that we win that matters.

Loose passive players are the easiest players in the world to beat. Saying you want smarter more aggressive opponents so you can win more makes no logical sense at all. No offense but I don't know any other way to say it.

A couple of home truths:

1 - You're nowhere near as good as you think you are.
2 - Variance can always be a killer over small samples.
3 - It's really hard to bluff calling stations.

I like #1, and after all it's a night out with a few friends. $20.00 and way too serious!

Don't look in the mirror you may see gills.

Bunch of calling stations...?

Optimal strategy: Don't bluff. Play with the nuts only (Or close to the nuts). Win money. Cash out. Rub on titties.

i always find playing home games to be quite a challenge, the most inexperienced are difficult to shake off as most are calling stations, i cant complain though the very first game of poker i played, i was thought how to play as the game went on, i happened to win... beginers luck i guess !!!

You guys are driving me absolutely crazy. Bad players, calling stations, maniacs, mice, rocks, lions and tigers and bears, OH MY!!!!

This is who you make money from. For crying out loud. You learn to play each one differently. For example:

The Calling Station: You know he's never folding a pair, ever. First thing you do is isolate him, so you are playing him heads up. So you have AA and the blinds are $1/$2, he calls from early position, your raise is to $30.

Yes, I said 15x BB - even a maniac is going to think about calling that one. Calling station calls, you bet $40 on the flop, he calls, you go all in on the turn and take his chips. He hits two pair on the river, oh well, reload and repeat.

And did you see the hand I went in with ? Yes, patience for the big ones, then play them agressively. Oh, wait, did I just say to play..........

TIGHT / AGRESSIVE - I think I may have heard that somewhere before.

If I hear one more player say they would rather play against good players, I am going to SCREAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have to watch out some times of pissing off your friends when you have home games, I've seen mors fights and friends going at it. I would rather piss off and take money off strangers than friends anyway.

Why would you want to piss either off, just be nice, play well, be friendly, and take their money. when they hit their garbage be nice congratulate them nicely (on their stupidity) but be nice and take their money.

If you berate or yell at them they will change how they play. That is the absolutely last thing we want them to do. Just be nice!!!! you will come out ahead in the long run and that is our goal. we want them to come back next time so we can be nice again with a full pocket:D

I AGREE lol...

Simply don't bluff with friends if its not the case and you don't need to!

Play smart and simple, calculated and if they are real noobs they will get out faster than you.
When your in money start your calling station and see what it goes on.
From there is your part.:withstupi
