If you like playing Holdem you had better get you time in now. In a couple of years Holdem games will be harder to find. PLO will do to Holdem what Holdem did to 7 Card Stud and 5 Card Draw and other popular games that were around in the 1970's. Back then when you entered a poker room in Las Vegas there were dozens of tables to choose from for the Stud and Draw games and one, maybe two tables of Holdem. The comment I keep getting from poker players is how boring Holdem has become.

Probably short deck 2-5, it's a newer variation that's really catching on in Macau. They have a Triton series that I really want to play in the future.

Besides texas holdem what is you favorite poker game to play?

I hate this game but I will bring it up here because no one talks about it.

I played it once in Atlantic City.

SplitJack Holdem.


Set up and dealt completely like Texas Holdem but you are trying to build a blackjack hand. I kept taking a hit for the turn and river and I was livid the entire time.

I payed for a $50 holdem tournament, and the catch was that there was one table that played "Splitjack" and the room management could send anyone they wanted to this table at any point. Here it was to get certain commoners, like myself, away from a few ESPN personalities that were in the field that night. I would win a few hands and they would "even out the tables" and make me play this ridiculous game.

It was great that I made it through to the final table and then the money that night.

Out of professionalism I will not reveal what Hotel it was hosting.

Omaha, Horse, Stud,and Razz are good games to play after Texas Holdem.

My favorite is probably Omaha Hi/Lo. I think it requires a little more luck but you can also use it to your advantage with players who catch a small piece of the board and think they have a monster. They don't really understand what hands to play or when they should fold them. I've seen much worse play from beginners in Omaha than I have from people who played Holdem.

Yes, I love the complexity of it. I started playing poker 14 years ago and quickly gravitated to PLO8. Still my favorite poker game today.
