Do You Prefer Playing Poker Online, or Home Games/Casino (Live Poker)

I play in all three modes - live home / live casino / online
My preference is live-home-fixed limit- low stakes! Just me and 7 friends enjoying our weekly game. We play 2 hours with 50 cent / $1.00 bets and max of three raises per street. Then we bump it up to $1/$2 for the last 2 hours. We also have a bad beat jackpot that is maxed at $150. Winner gets 80%, second gets 20%. We play kill pots with stakes doubled. Players will win as much as $120 a night and lose $100 or more. Most players are up or down a few dollars.


I also enjoy playing in casinos. BUT, my biggest concern in casinos is not the other players (I am reasonably capable), but the rake and tips that constantly draw chips off the table and reduce my stack. Naturally, the house has its expenses and I have to pay for the privilege of playing there.


My least favourite mode is online. I have too many distractions around the house that keep me from staying focused on my game. I have never invested online, having played with cash won in freerolls. Maybe when I am too old and feeble to get out, I will have to invest in a small online stake.

when I started playing online, live poker became really slow. playing 4 or more tables at a time online, live poker became boring.

but live poker, you get to read bluffs etc etc,

whole different feel of the game.

Live for me. Easier to pick up tells. you can spot the fish in an instant.

Poker Online

Good question. Living in America presents many roadblocks; both online and casino location limitations.

I use to enjoy what others outside the US do enjoy; pokerstars, Full Tilt, Ultimate Bet. Now the only two US sites that offer freerolls without a deposit and have some type of money prizes are ACR, Black Chip, BOL, Sportsbetting (for CC members), True Poker & intertops. As far as I know, ignition and Bovada require a deposit. If I am wrong please let me know.

I use to live close to Tampa Hard Rock and played there. Now, I live so far from the nearest location that I play online. I am a statistical guy. I study the game seriously. In my retirement, it has become a part of my free-time days. I love to read. I have read books written by a number of Poker Pros and have studied their strategies. Gus Hansen aggressiveness intrigues me. Phil Hellmuth teaches good logical play. Phil Gordon has some interesting "little" books. Doyle Brunson has longevity which draws my interest too. Sklansky has a great "statistical play" book. The old Full Tilt team put out a book that has some very good play strategies and stats.

Put all that reading and knowledge into my head and you have me. If I can only master patience, I think I could do OK online. Like dodging tomatoes! It's my only option for now, but I love it. Thank you for asking.

Can't imagine anyone who has played both online and live would prefer online. Besides the convenience and multi-tabling there isn't a comparison. I'll go live instead of online more times than not.
