I only played once at the real table
I only play online and I feel quite safe. I never play on little-known sites, I always choose reliable sites with a good reputation, tested by time.

There has been times when I have felt threatened by other players in a Live situation, usually these are sore loser's who cannot accept when they play badly and want to blame everyone else at the table, in a Casino the Security are always around so not so much of a problem, but in a Pub there is only your Friends and the Landlord that can back you up.
On-line however, a sore loser has an invisible shield that you cannot get physical and they tend to get aggressive in the chat box, if you start to argue with them they get more and more insulting and vulgar, so the best defence is just ignore them or turn the chat off altogether.

I play more online, I still have not had the opportunity to play at a real table for money, just with friends

I'm not really sure what you mean by feeling safer, so I'll go with a couple of things.

1. If you mean safer from being cheated I'm more comfortable playing live. Since I play mostly tournaments that really isn't much of a consideration in either venue, but for cash games collusion would be much easier to get away with online than in person.

2. If you mean physically safer, then I feel much better playing in my own home. At the casino, especially after the sun goes down, walking through the parking garage/lot can be scary, and with good reason. I'm usually smiling but in this situation I'll have a sad look in order to appear as someone who lost all of her money. That way I hope to eliminate one motivation for someone to attack me.
I agree with Emily. Why would you not feel safe physically playing online? You must mean safe from cheating, which is definitly more of a risk online.

Hi, for me playing online is less difficult because in live poker you should be stay aware about your behavior and control your actions and control that for me is not easy.

I play in a league and we all know each other for at least 5yrs+, so that's safe enough. I've played in a regional tournament once and I wouldn't say I felt unsafe, as everyone was reasonably friendly in general.
Online, I would never give out personal information to anyone and just keep the conversation general chit chat at the table, with people who I don't know. As someone has said in the thread, if you win a good amount of money, in person could make you feel a bit nervous, leaving the venue. The most issue you'd get online, is someone harassing you over the win, if they were able to contact you.

I feel safer playing online, but playing in person the emotion is very different. There is a sense of continual pressure in head-to-head poker. As I don't have time available to play on days and times of face-to-face poker games, I always choose to play online.

Winning over a thousand £ live and walking out of casino late with a wad of cash can feel uncomfortable and a bit unsafe which is not an issue online.
Always have a sad look on your face when you leave a casino...especially at night. It won't look like you have your pockets full of cash, and left it all inside. :)

I feel pretty safe at the card rooms in my area, but I still prefer playing online just for the sheer convenience of it.

Online is more handy. Live is twenty times easier but everything is slower. Both safe in my experience.

I'd never play an online SNG or MTT for more than about 50 bucks .Too many players at the higher stakes have data tracking , charts posted by their computer or on their phone , RTA , or even colluding . At least live you can see if something fishy is happening .

I am not sure what you mean by "safer". Safe from what? Other players who might do me harm? An unsafe environment where someone might attack me?
Naturally, we are almost all "safer" in our own homes, playing online. Most people are not in physical danger at home. In that case, online poker is best.
However, I do play live in a home game with 7 other seniors. Could not feel safer. Even the parking is on a safe street in a safe neighbourhood. I have played in casinos across North America and always feel safe at the tables - especially in canada (tougher gun laws). Even in the USA, I feel safe in the poker rooms, although I know some players could be carrying weapons.

I have played a lot on both the online and live games. While I do prefer the live games better and feel comfortable playing live more, I tend to play more online due to finical constraints.

Online they can scam you very easily. I would prefer more live , but unfortunately for me I don't have the appropriate bankroll to try this. The live interaction at the tables is sth I would like to experience at least once .

Unfortunately, many poker rooms do not pay enough attention to the security of user accounts, limiting themselves to only one password. The security of transfers is very important, but it is only half the battle. A lot of time players' money is spent both on virtual accounts in anticipation of battles at the poker tables, and on the tables themselves.

Both online and live, I'm sure there are moments in which unfair play can be present. Offline you can get to the cheating club, online to some rooms I have indignation about the honesty of the RNG. But for the most part, I'm sure online or offline, there is not much difference
