I know you're not looking for it, but my condolences and I'm really pleased that you are managing to get through the unimaginable.

'One' is often the right answer to questions! ;)

Thank you very much for your kind words - especially thoughtful considering just how many other posters you took the time replying to! I doff my cap. ;)

Not at all! With this Ciara business I recommend keeping your cap firmly pulled down past your ears with both hands! :)

Also, you're bang on the money about other distractions holding equal potential to negatively impact your game..

It doesn't matter what it is that is syphoning off your attention or focus from what your opponents are doing, it is probably going to be bad for your results..

The key thing is, 'one man's meat is another man's poison'...

One person might not be able to stay focused without the TV creating generic background noise whereas another might find their attention constantly drawn to the TV instead..

The same is true of alcohol, or anything else..

Having had a very different relationship with alcohol than most people, personally, drinking is a much more complicated concept than most other possible distractions!

Noticed you're in the UK!

I'm Norwich... :)

PCA 2015 ****tails - YouTube

That's a great point you make, the one-man's-meat/poison thing. I'm a musician and generally like rock music best, so you'd think I'd benefit from listening to some Foo Fighters, Fleetwood Mac, ACDC, etc while I play poker, but no, it hurts my results (think it makes me play too aggressively, and I'm already a very aggro player to begin with!) whereas classical background music seems to help my game.

Yup, weather's crazy right now but we'd better get used to it. Climate change, innit! Blew two of the tempered glass panels clear out of our garden table, one of them survived but the other one smashed to smithereens. Of course, there's plenty of peeps suffering far worse property damage in weather like this.

I'm from St Helens near Liverpool. GREAT Rugby League team here, and... that's about it!

P.S. At one point when I first watched that PCA, I thought Roger Teska must be faking being so drunk to give him an edge (tilt his opponents, seem less focused than he really was, etc)... and then I realised, nope, he's smashed!

Usually it is a bad combination for me to drink alcohol while playing cards. I tend to raise alot more and fold alot less. I never can win any money either with my judgement clouded lol.

No I don't. I look for the players who do because I think it's easier to beat them because they have a tendency to try to bluff too often

I hear there's an 'ok' football team around that area too..

Can't think of their name though! :icon_scra

Would like to see them slip up on Saturday mind!

Do you get to play much live?

Presumably drinking probably has less negative impact online than live, if only because people can't see you, haha..

At most I'll have a beer or two when I'm enjoying the game but generally I don't. Drinking doesn't necessarily cloud your thinking if its extremely moderate, but it will tire you out even when you don't get drunk. Playing Poker tired is just as bad as playing drunk. :aetsch:

I'll just BET you'd like to see 'em slip up against your canaries, but I think it's probably wishful thinking (sigh, look at me, tempting fate!) what with our teams book-ending the Premier League. I'd be very sad if our unbeaten season came to an end against the bottom of the league, that'd be one heck of a slip. Mind you, I DO have a soft spot for Norwich, I didn't exactly support them but I did take an interest in them back in the 90s when Mark Robbins played for them - he was sooooo good! - before he moved to Utd.

I don't play live much at all. Once a month or less I host a home game with my mates. Twice I went along to a local poker night but have felt embarrassed at the thought of going back because, first and foremost, there was zero atmosphere, no table banter, etc, but second it was a very amateur winner-takes-all poker tournament night: My poker-enthusiast buddy and I went together the first time, he won and I came second; the next time I went on my own and won. Some might say I'm walking away from easy money by not going back there, but it was also really low stakes, nothing that's gonna help pay the mortgage, so I'd rather not steal chump change from fish in a miserable back-room of a social club where nobody chats and they don't even stick on any background music! Do you have a better live poker scene in Norwich?

Hi!! I make my own craft beer, I drink all the time, but I try to make it when I am already in the tournaments and by the time it is already in effect it is probably already out of the tournament or FT where you have to play it and you have to be a Little uninhibited, also if I have a bad bet I take it more calmly haha. But if the tournament is important I leave the alcohol for after finishing the session. good luck!!

Hey, what's happening at Liverpool is undeniably phenomenal but at the same time, at least fifty percent of our results have been gross reflections of the actual contest.

I only support Norwich til I die.. Slipped over and grazed my knee the other day- bled green and yellow!

Don't be surprised if we pull off a giant-killing on the weekend mate (sorry in advance), we've not only already done it this once season against M.C.F.C. (it wasn't a lucky win we outplayed them) but, it's our specialty. We're the accumulator annihilators! Furthermore, a shock upset on the weekend is the only possible catalyst for what would surely be the greatest of all great escapes!

Who wouldn't want to see that!?

Live poker is ok in Norwich, not great. There is a snooker club with two good sized MTT each week but there are no casinos here, which for the size of the city- crazy*, the nearest are Great Yarmouth where there three or four and you can find good games there. The palace is my preference.

I do not drink alcohol. Usually, if I play during the am hour I drink coffee, and lemon water through out the day.. Alcohol make me sleepy and is harmful to my brain .too..

I need to have the TV on since I get bored so easily, especially in long tourneys.. :D

I believe it could be a good idea, but personally i prefer to drink some coffee and listen to some grunge bands, like Alice in Chains or STP.

Never drink while playing poker, regardless of the social circle. For one, I don't need another reason to drink and it always seems to end bad.

I personally haven't, though if I were playing a home game with some buddies, I don't mind relaxing and having fun and drinking it up a bit, though for me in a casino (Live or Online) I respect my play like a business and would treat it like so. A fun question for sure interesting to see others thoughts on it:cool:
