Hey all!

So, when I go to a casino, I most definitely will play poker (I don't visit properties without a poker room). However, I have a separate bank roll for video poker and blackjack. I don't really play anything else simply because I don't really want to...

...I've noticed in recent years that the blackjack games have become worse and worse....a lot of 6:5 games that don't allow surrenders and such, just as an example. 9/6 Jacks or Better is my favorite game for VP, but you simply cannot find it anymore. The only way to find games that have the lowest house edge are to play really high limits.

Why do we think this is? Are the properties getting greedy? Do they know that more and more gamblers are becoming educated in basic strategy and optimal play thanks to the internet and want to take that away from us? Are they taking advantage of the casual tourist/adult knowing they will play the worse games anyways?

Finally, are there areas of the USA/World where you can find these favorable games at decent stakes?

Thanks for chatting everyone.

I agree with your supposition. I think the casinos have tightened up since more people are becoming knowledgeable about the games and reducing the edge the casino has. Ignorance has been the casinos biggest edge in the past. This is especially true of the games where one competes against the casino. Live poker is not as bad but some casinos rape you over with the rake.

I saw a topic here, where they write that poker is evil, but I think that the casino is evil!

I don't like casinos, I prefer to go play poker instead of going to play roulette or coin machines.

That's why I prefer blackjack and video poker over everything else....the house edge is low if you can find the right games and there is an element of skill instead of pure RNG. Plus, I keep my BJ+VP bankrolls completely separate from my poker roll.

Any game that the casino offers for you to play will always be bad. Just business

I agree 100%. However, there used to be better games at reasonable stakes (which is why I started this post). I'm talking, 7-10 years ago. 9/6 Jacks or Better machines were not uncommon. 3:2 BJ games with late surrender, 6-deck shoes, and good double/split rules were also common at lower stakes. Now, it seems that this isn't the case anymore. If you want to play these games, you need a large bankroll and/or willing to commit a lot of money.

I completely avoid most casino games. I'm just theorizing why these casinos decided to make it a lot worse for the casual gambler.

Same I never play machines, strictly poker for me. I think something is wrong when a Casino can ban you from playing if you win too much. Lose all day, but do not dare win.

Playing cards is out of competition. In it, you can decide your own further actions, which is not in the game of roulette and slot machines.

I like a little video poker if I can find a machine with a decent pay table. But since those seem to be few and far between at the major properties, I will usually just play some poker and save the VP action for when I feel like drinking at one of the casino bars. :)
