He wasn't celebrating like he played the hand perfectly, he was celebrating like someone who was practically out of the main event in the final 3 tables and suddenly became the chip leader. That's a pretty big deal, it's final stages of the biggest poker event of the year, it's life changing money, I'd celebrate too! I'd have to already be a big name in poker and very rich to not celebrate there. Everybody feels bad for Cheong and I do too, but put yourselves in Candio's place, if you don't celebrate there, you have no emotions.

Man, i'm watching this again and i just cannot stand that *****. Isn't there Hevad Khan rule? I thought they banned excessive celebration. It's not about not having any emotions. This guy is just horrible. Nothing else. When I saw Hevad Khan celebrating bad beat, it was QQ>AA pre-flop all-in. It's a bad beat alright but at least it's understandable. Would you or anybody have folded QQ pre-flop?

some bad beats are understandable, such as AA<KK, or overpair vs set where overpair sucks out with higher set, flush draw vs set, etc. I can tolerate those kind of bad beat celebration because their plays are somewhat logical and just unfortunate luck where it's their fate.

But this hand was just plain horrible. he CALLED with pair of 5s. wasn't even a shove. Just looks like a douchebag monkey when he runs around.

I guess it's all down to your definition of "excessive" - however bad you think his play was the guy caught runner-runner to stay alive in the biggest tournament in the world, I think he's entitled to show some emotion. And it's not as if he knocked Cheong out and was dancing on his grave or anything. This isn't what the "Hevad Kahn" rule was intended for IMO.

I like the kid. Personally I think he was still a bit tilted from the hand where he tried to fold and they ruled he had to call. And that was a horrible ruling given that in previous years they've ruled (in televised hands that they made a big deal of) that the chips have to be released for it to be a call and that forward motion alone isn't the normal rule in Vegas casinos.

I saw that last week on espn when it was shown and it was crazy. He had like 10 outs anyway on river but such a big pot with only 5 7 vs AA is crazy. I feel bad for Cheong because if he won that pot he would have had a massive chip lead over the rest of the field.

Cheong is a very good player. However, I hope Michael Mizrachi wins it all.

The fact here is that Candio is a TERRIBLE PLAYER. period. Why would you risk your tournament making that play with a PAIR? We have seen him doing that sh*t all over again, getting the cards in the turn and river, getting runner, runner, etc.

He's a donkey with luck. enough said.

I'm not saying it was bad that he lied, it was another bad call/play for him to make on the river.

Its not like its an easy snap fold, but calling was not the optimal option.

It's all just poker.

What would you have said if Cheong just had Ace King and Candio made the correct call with a pair of fives. (and then Cheong sucks out catching an Ace or King).

Or if Candio had 56 instead of 57 and had the trips. Then the Aces should have been folding instead of shoving or just hoping to catch another Ace.

It's easy when you can see all the cards and when the river has been dealt.
But for the players at the table, on that flop, there is a lot more to think about. Pocket 6s even would have been one thing that both players should have been thinking about after the preflop action.

Still it's all part of the game and what makes it so much fun, so many variables and such unpredictability.

The other players probably liked it because it evened out the stacks.

Um no. Other players would hate it actually because they want to move up in money ladder and reach the final table as quickly as possible. Why would you like somebody to stay in the game when his elimination wins you more money?

So everytime there's a paired board on the flop and someone bets I'm supposed to fold my aces because someone could have quads? It was a total donk play by Candio - everyone knew he was behind when he called.

It was probably bittersweet for the rest of the players at the table, on one hand - no one got eliminated so that sucks. But on the other hand, the worst player remaining in the tourny just got a healthy stack.

Because I'm playing for the win, not just to scrape up the money ladder.
I don't want one dominant stack.
I'd rather have the chips where they are easier for me to get them.
As I said before it evens out the stacks, giving everyone else a better chance to take the lead by playing well instead of hoping to get lucky from a double up.

This hand occured when there were 19 players left. This was WSOP 2010 Episode 28 Day 8.

19th gets paid $317,161
18th gets paid $396,967

People who are mostly scraping up the money ladder are short-stacked players who are trying to use their time and chips efficiently. Why would they want somebody to stay in the game?

People who are average/deep stacked are looking towards final table by knocking out short-stackers as possible.

Why would anyone hope someone stays in the game? If someone's elimination will win me $79,806 while chopping down the tables from 3 tables to two and both tables becoming 9-handed table, I will want that person's elimination right away. I've seen plenty of short-stacked players in the tournament come back and win the whole event. Why would you want to give them a little chance to come back?

Oh yea! I forgot if you make a WSOP final table you have to be a great player.

Hmmmm, let's ask Jamie Gold.

there are better examples that him since he actually won the thing. Gold has done nothign before or since that, but he was untouchable during the 2006 main event. Ran over the field with a massive stack for most of the later tournament. Everyone was confident they could take the large stack away (Friedman,Friberg,Cunningham) but they all failed in 2006. It was impressive. A fluke? Maybe so but it was a fantastic tournament for him.
