I might have to eat my words about the leafs not making the playoffs, they appear to be on a roll again. They should beat a suddenly hot Bruin's team tonight

:) I knew it since game 1 ! Leafs are making the playoffs!

But wtf is up with the Islanders winning... And Atlanta slipping down just like montreal did..

When Toronto makes the playoffs and Montreal doesn't I hope we have some commercials making fun of them.. I remember I was in Montreal for the last few games of the season, and when tampa beat Carolina making Toronto miss the playoffs.. one day after that game they had A commercial making fun of the Leafs... BASTARDS.

Found it on youtube.. YouTube - Best Buy Habs-Leafs Commercial BASTARDS

I'm calling it now - Tucker for Fernando Pisani and Petr Sykora.

I know Chuck, I really don't like Darcy Tucker. But the Oilers brass do and he's an Alberta boy. Pisani is a great playoff performer and has amazing chemistry with Peca.

I don't see any big trades involving Toronto to be honest... And I hope there arn't any.. Tucker will be kept for the rest of the season at least I'm sure..

Leafs are playing their best hockey of the season, and tucker apparently is 3 weeks away.. same with peca.. and wellwood I have no idea...

Ferg better not do anything dumb like give up Tlusty.. I have a feeling peca might be traded... oh and obviously bell and kronwall if he can get rid of em

Tlusty??

tbh I don't see any trades either. There were talks about tucker moving but I hope not :(

We've got a solid young team which is only getting better (Steen + Wellwood will be stars IMO), Sundin's still holding strong and in a year or two I think we should be a serious contender if we get someone to replace the old farts on our team. That and a solid defenseman....

Tlusty was our first round pick... All i see being moved is Wozniewski, Bell and Kronwall

Tucker will stay for the rest of the season at minimum..

What's wrong with our defense ? I think it's as solid as it gets..

Well tbh I think Gill is exactly what we don't need. hands like rocks and with the newer rules, his big body isn't of much importance in front of the net. What's the use of signing a big monster like him if he can't even use his strength to clear the net? meh I dunno maybe I just don't like the guy personally :/

Though maybe you're right...not much really needs to be done to our defense.

your defense is almost as bad as Edmonton's. There is a TON of room for improvement on Toronto's blue line.

I don't understand where...

Kaberle is the best puck mover in the league (Arguable I know), White is like a little mini kaberle, he has great puck skills and is very fast.. Gill works wonders on the PK.. The only thing that is a slight problem is speed.. But that's only an issue with Gill and Kubina really, McCabe needs to be a bit more disciplined as well.

And what they might slightly lack in defense they make up for it in offense. I like our blue line.

and no comments on their defensive abilities I see. I'm not saying rebuild, but the depth is not there past Kaberle and MacCabe, who aren't the best defensive d-men in the league. You've got two guys who run a damn good powerplay and that's it. No one has a hope in hell of ever winning a Norris trophy in their best season of their career.

Puck moving is very much a defensive ability. It's nearly impossible to forcheck Kaberle.... Gill and Kubina are solid defensivly, except for their lack of speed and that's about it... Coliacavo, White.. they have improved a lot since the start of the season, and are often in the right place covering their man and taking away scoring chances.. Mccabe's defense needs a lot of work i'll agree with that lol.

As I said earlier, we don't have the best defensive blue line in the league, but what the blue line lacks defensivly it makes up for it offensivly... And is definitly not a one line defense.

Oh and Kaberle has a shot at winning it if he keeps improving at the pace he is.. might be a longshot but I think he can win it.. What a pickup he was, 200 and something pick... I'd put money on the fact that Kaberle will win the norris eventually but that could take 10 years to see...

I should have know better to try discuss the Leafs with someone from Make Believe land ;) Of course, the Leafs are best in the league and will win the cup for the next 25 years straight.:p

Seriously, you need to take off your Leaf glasses and look at some of the weaknesses and the blueline is your weakest spot. If Raycroft doesn't stand on his head you guys lose. That's a sign of bad defense. Too many shots from good angles, too many second chances. Rayroft is making your D look good when he plays well and they look horrible when Raycroft is off. That's defense problems. I'm not trying to cut the Leafs down, I'm calling it as I see it.

I never said they had the best blueline in the league.. All I said is we have more depth on our blue line then you think.

If Raycroft doesn't stand on his head you guys lose. That's a sign of bad defense.
This statement couldn't be more wrong.. Passed few years yes we have relied on our goaltending a lot, but this year it's been the opposite. Raycroft was the reason we went through a huge slump earlier in the year. He was letting in a few softies per game.

Saying we lose if Raycroft doesn't stand on his head is a joke, considering he hasn't been relied on heavily at all during the season. He has maybe stolen only one game for us... and costed us quite a few.

Hmmmm.... a few comments on the last few posts.

I don't think the leafs defense is that bad at all, they have a good mix of young guys who are coming around and decent vets. Between McCabe and Kubina however they may well be the most overpaid defense in the league.
If I were Kaberle I'd be mighty pissed that those two were getting paid more than me, seeing as how he is by far your best defensman. Though in all fairness Lidstrom is the best puck moving defensman in the league, but Kaberle is right up there.

Either way Habs have finally won a couple, looks like the stretch run is going to be really interesting and fun. Incidentally, if the penguins can pick up some help on D they will be mighty scary come playoff time.

One more thing, if I was a playoff team looking ot make a deep run in the playoffs I would be calling Kevin Lowe day and night trying to get Ryan Smyth as a rental player. Everyone knows he is likely gonna resign in Edmonton, but man he could help any teams playoff run.

This is very true... They are way way way overpaid for what they do, doesn't make them bad players.. just not 6m and 5m worth.

How is this different than what I said???
Raycroft was the reason we went through a huge slump earlier in the year. He was letting in a few softies per game.

What ever. Leafs fan will never change.
