Heartland Poker Tour executives announced plans today for another star-studded season launch in Vegas this January, but HPT players won’t just meet one of poker’s biggest stars. They will have the opportunity to win one. Annie Duke, the Duchess of Poker, will raffle off fifty percent of any money she wins playing HPT’s televised main event at Red Rock Casino Resort.

Duke will join a handful of other poker celebrities raffling... their action to benefit Disabled American Veterans, HPT’s charity partner. The raffle will take place at a VIP party at Cherry Nightclub on Thursday, January 13. Tickets for the red carpet party are available while supplies last by booking an HPT room package at Red Rock January 13th through the 16th.

When Red Rock hosted HPT’s inaugural event of Season VI this past January, the event sold out and the champion took home $125,901. “We’ve added tables, chips, and dealers for our Season VII kick-off,” says HPT President Todd Anderson, “Players can expect an even bigger prize pool this January.”

Duke earned crossover fame when she appeared in Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice, finishing in second place among sixteen competitors. Raising money for charity was the focus of each episode, with Duke raising more money than any other competitor. Ultimately, Trump chose Duke’s rival, Joan Rivers, as the winner of the 2009 season, although Duke raised more than three times the amount Rivers did for charity. “Annie’s appearance on Apprentice revealed a generous side to the poker industry,” says Anderson, “She is a great ambassador for the game.”

HPT has a two-year history of raising funds and awareness for Disabled American Veterans, a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting America’s heroes. At HPT tour stops throughout the U.S., a percentage of the prize pools benefits DAV. HPT also produces and airs public service announcements in every episode. Current PSAs for DAV feature 2004 WSOP Main Event Champion Greg Raymer.

A charity tournament for DAV at Red Rock last January attracted twenty celebrities, including actor Lou Diamond Phillips and pro Dennis Phillips. HPT will conclude Season VI this November with another charity tournament to benefit DAV at the Championship Open in Michigan. Poker celebs Scotty Nguyen, Tiffany Michelle, Maria Ho, Darvin Moon, and Bernard Lee have signed on to participate at Soaring Eagle Casino Resort.

“HPT events are typically less intense than other high-profile tournaments”, says HPT Executive Producer Greg Lang, “Fun charitable events are a great fit for our tour and our players.”

Additional celebrity participants at Red Rock will be announced in the coming weeks. More information about the nationally-televised event in Las Vegas can be found at www.heartlandpokertour.com.
