...almighty dollar...

Exactly, there is no reason to teach people to be intelligent thinkers, it is much better for the powers that be to teach people just enough so they can be useful pawns. And I would say you can start there because this goes back to greek philosophy in BC. The thinkers were pushed away and the schools of thought destroyed.

*Questioning why is not something authority figures like.

The survey is too broad and exaggerated to be valid or accurate. So if they are saying that caffeine is included, then I can make a statistic saying that 4 out of 5 children under the age of 10 use drugs to stay sharp on the playground.

I lol'd.

Well I did use a lot of caffeine in some tournaments to stay focused at late hours in the night...

I don't think marijuana would help here lol...

Cocaine, well it sure must help but everyone in the table would notice ( ALL IN!!!!! ****IN' ALL IN YOU MUTHAFU***!!! *runs around the table* ).

Relaxant drugs are ineffective in anything focus related, stimulant ones should help.

Of all thoseI'd only use caffeine ( I'm a healthy boy, lol )

It is all bullshit, i play on a regular basis at commerce casino in LA, maybe on or two are drunk at the table, maybe one smokes some pot, but for the most part don't see much drug use at the table, or people are just really good at hiding it.

They are using drugs to cope with the bad beats and the undeniable urge to choke the living hell out of that donkey, and that fish, and that total bastard who ate their cake!

This study is a joke simply because of the inclusion of caffeine. The 80% of poker players this study claims doesn't matter when more than 80% of the general population consumes caffeine in one form or another.

caffeine, check

guarana/energy drinks, check

marijuana, check

do any actually improve my game? maybe the caffeine during the later hours, but id say no, none of them help

if i virutally eliminated everyone of these from my life id probably gain a small % edge in poker due to a more vigilant drive to learn how to crush even more, instead of being stoned and sleepy quite often. Especially against... 4/5 players? gg.

I've actually been looking for something in this genre, not so much to aid me with game endurance as much as making me obvious to reality when I've lost.

Absolutely correct, besides at one point the drug has little or no effect after using it a few times as you get used to it and just has the bad side effects involved.

Seriously I wonder how media obtains and presents their statistics or findings or whatever.

It goes on to say that the idea is to improve focus, concentration and stamina.

Let's see:

Marijuana -- makes me hungry, then sleepy, have been known to fall asleep while munching; focus is a bit strange (have you ever really really looked at the kings, I mean, like, wow!) -- not great for poker
Cocaine -- I dunno officially -- makes my friends all hyper, talky and cocky and makes them think they are very clever altho they sound pretty stoned & stupid to me -- none of this sounds like a good plan for poker
Amphetamines -- I dunno officially -- makes pals hyper and cranky, awake but thought processes are a bit off
Valium - sleepytime bigtime

Energy drinks, red bull, coffee, etc -- works good for awhile

Take breaks, take walks, stretch -- helps a lot, especially if you use the time to refocus and think

Having an attractive person either slap or tickle you -- wakes me right up

i dont see how cocaine and the methamphetamine would help, i feel they would keep somebody real awake and antsey, causing them to play a little reckless, and marijuana could possibly help on keeping focused and patient but i think after sitting at the table for extended period of time any one of these drugs would effect the player in a negative manner

lol Doops.

The pain pills I have been on make it much easier to handle the bad beats. :p

This. If I get bad beat sober sometimes I want to smash my monitor. Get one while on a vic or perc and its a hellova lot easier to just look forward to the next hand.

Also, personally I believe marijuana to be somewhat of a performance enhancing drug. If you smoke regularly, and dont smoke that mexican crap, its a nice head high that lets me analyze my decisions better. Perhaps its just that I hit my lucky streaks while high.

Caffeine definitely is a drug that is extremely popular among poker players but I doubt it affects your play TOO much.

Do you use drugs, such as tea, coffe, fizzy drinks, sugar, fruits/berries, food, sleep, sex or water?

As a university student, a lot of people take methamphetamines (Adderoll, Ritalin) to stay up for the night and study. I do the same thing for a long poker tourny, although it makes me a little fidgety (Which doesnt matter online), it increases awareness and for me helps me keep my concentration. Weed on the other hand would make me sleepy and lazy, and if I was on coke I wouldnt want to sit still and play a mental game.

you gotta be careful with those fizzy drinks, i hear they are going to start testing for that....

fizzy drinks and marijuana is to poker like steroids are to baseball...

they make you bigger and can cause man-boobs :D

Stay sharp at the table? With MJ and cocaine? That's a lot of crap. The only things that make sense are cigarettes, coffee and energy drinks.

Not to mention that you could get in a lot of trouble if someone notices.

I love government funded no nonsense studies. And,.... just remember any good study will always recommend further study.

Just think, we could have discovered how to throw lightning from our hands and summon demons by now...

LOL, but seriously if over the ages so much stuff hadn't been destroyed by conquerors, changes in religion, etc who knows where we might be. I stand by my statement that we do not teach people to think intelligently, and that goes back to ancient times. Questioning and thinking differently were frowned upon, and even punished.

Instead of teaching people how to think for themselves intelligently and understand, we teach people how to memorize.

That's kinda why I've always cringed when I hear people talk about "Memorizing your multiplication tables" and such.
