It has come that time where I have reached my first milestone, 1k posts.
I thought about what to post about for my 1k, and was going to go with leaks in my game, but then thought I can do that another time. So I decided to post about the things that irritate me while playing live either in a casino or a home game.
So the first one and probably the one that irritates me the most is when a player says "I'll put you all in". This in my opinion is very rude and in a example I will give below can be costly. If you have a player covered and want to put them all in just say "I'm all in" or "all in". Here are 3 examples of things that happened with me in the hand when players have said "I'll put you all in".
First one happened just the other night, playing at a friends house we get heads up, and its winner take all, he offers a split me $20 him $80 because he has me covered 4-1 he has 83k I have 17k. I said no lets play if you beat me you beat me. So first hand its on him and he says "I'll put you all in" to which I replied "I can't call, but since you said that I'm gonna win now" he said "said what", "I'll put you all in" I told him. He was like "so" and i told him "It's rude and not good etiquette to say, so I'll beat you for saying it". 4 hands later I doubles up through him, and then again a bit later and finally finish him off when my Q4 beat his 93 on a board that was K 9 3 Q 4. I gladly took the $100 and said "I told ya".
Then I was playing at the casino it was early morning like 4-5am and there were only 3 $1/$2 tables going, I'm sitting with about $180 in front of me and the table I got moved to had this old man on my left, I folded for the first 45 minutes and the old man turns to me and says "are you going to play a hand or just wait for the nuts" I didn't respond. So a few hands later I get dealt 2 2 in the BB no raises so I'm happy to see a flop flop comes out 10 8 2 with two hearts on board so I check old man bets out $15 all the others fold and I just call. Turn is an 8 giving me a full house, so I check old man bets $45 I think for a few seconds and just call river is a Q no more hearts hit, so I'm pretty sure he is gonna bet because he has been very aggressive in the time I have sat there so i check once again and he says "I'll put you all in" I look at him and say "NO YOUR NOT PUTTING ME ALL IN BECAUSE I HAVE THE BEST HAND I CALL" and I flip over my hand, he looks and says "I thought you were on a flush draw" I counted my chips he paid me off and I racked my chips and left he was not happy about the hit and run .
The last example is how it can cost you to say those words. Again I'm in the casino playing 1/2 nl I'm sitting with about $450 in front of me, been playing at this table for 5 hours or so with pretty much the same players. The guy 3 to my left has been there a long time and has around $900 then this hand happens. I'm sitting middle position and guy to my left is dealer, UTG+1 raises to $12 and has about $85 left in front of him, I look down and see JJ so I call, and then button looks at the UTG+1 player and says "I'll put you all in". now this player has been raising alot usually not with anything, so the UTG player calls and I call, button did not see me call and flips his cards he had QQ, dealer tells the button that I was still in the hand and the button says "were all in" and I said "no you put him all in your bet is $85 we can still bet on the side" so he turns his cards back over and since this is a cash game his hand is not dead. Flop comes AK3 and I look at the player and say "well knowing what you have I'M ALL IN" and player angrily throws his cards in the muck and I happily turn over my JJ which pisses the player off even more. Now in this instance if the button had said "I'm all in" then I probably fold, but if I don't then he beats me, but since his bet was only $85 and he thought they were all in I made it seem like I had him beat with the 2 overs on board.
Now another thing that irritates me while playing live is a player that thinks they know what pot odds are and makes a horrible call thinking they have pot odds when they don't yet they hit. When asked how do you make that call they say "I had pot odds" to which I tell them "you didn't have pot odds, there was $65 in the pot and it was $45 for you to call and you were a 4-1 under dog and getting less than 2-1 pot odds". then they really top it off with "well it worked out for me"
Next is the player that wears headphones and is constantly asking what the bet is to him. Look dude either take the headphones off or wear in a way you can hear whats going on. I wear headphones while I play live but I keep one ear out so I know whats going on. They are just slowing up the play.
And lastly is mainly the Taj in Atlantic City, a buddy and me went there and got into the midnight tourney its a $50 entry start with $10,000 in chips. So I sit at my table and the tourney starts, 15 minutes later a new dealer sits down and counts the cards, another 15 minutes and a new dealer sits and counts the cards. I'm like what the hell clock is running and were getting like 5-7 hands in and then it takes 2-3 minutes for the dealer to get set and start dealing. Mountaineer does it right they don't change tournament dealers until a break so it doesn't affect the play.
So that is some things that irritate me while playing live, I hope that people realize the "I'll put you all in" thing is being rude and sometimes costly.
I really enjoy this forum lots of great people willing to help, and have fun. I have really enjoy the winter league and all the invasions. I will be posting my leaks very soon to get help solving them. This probably was not as interesting as some others milestone post but I hope it wasn't a total bore.
