Actually the reverse is likely true and we'll see online poker go extinct while live will never go extinct. Best to practice and play both live and online and get the best of both worlds.
With bot AI improving, HUD grinders, and damage to markets like the US and Australia online, online poker definitely is at risk for going away. Maybe it'll limp along for a few years and then hopefully it'll be legal fully again and we'll see a surge im I'm wrong. But if governments continue to destroy ease of access to online poker, I'm afraid the game online will become unbeatable as rake increases to make up for dwindling player numbers, HUD grinders and bots fill the tables, and your average player looking to "gamble" won't go through endless hoops to deposit online.
Live poker will never die because of the social aspect and the ease of being able to walk into a casino, plop some cash down, and play. And then walk away with more cash in hand if you win.
There's a reason why live 1/2 is softer/easier than 2c/5c online.
