It isn't sexy, but this general plan works very well:

Work to win small (<15bb) pots when you play a hand, and only occasional contest medium or big pots. This should result in slow steady stack growth at little risk, allowing you to play the occasional bigger pots with "found money".

Make a point of keeping your losses as small as possible.

Play VERY tight when you are facing a raise, UBER NITTY when there is a raise and a re-raise.

Do not open tight or loose pre flop based solely on your cards and position. 15 minutes at a online table or 30 live is plenty of time to identify your opponents; use it to map out individual strategies and fine tune them as you go.

Pot control on the turn is a medium strength hands best friend.

Keep your game aggressive but cautious; mostly avoid putting much money in without having a real quantifiable edge. If you are not sure your bet or call has a good chance of success vs. this player at this time - don't.

Take ALL the general EV advice with a grain of salt. You need to adjust it to your current opponents and situation or you will bleed money.

Remember most people do not play even remotely by the book so respect their raises in weird spots. Chances are they made a hand and you can toss your over pair.

Do not gamble just because you have a slight edge in odds; it could take 100,000 hands or more to normalize. Save gambling for when you have substantial fold equity and your draw is just a back up plan
