On the other hand, 1/2 live is really ridiculously soft when you're a decent player, so given the right conditions OP might be able to succeed even if he isn't the next Phil Ivey.

On the other hand, playing from noon to 8pm may not be the best schedule if your plan is to take money away from drunk tourists.

Even still playing from noon til 8PM every day would be better than his plan to quit whenever he reaches +$100 for the day. This guarantees small winning days and LARGE losing days.

Also OP where are you planning on playing?

Yeah, that's obviously one of the worst aspect of his plan. Leave early when tables are good and you play fine and play long sessions when they suck or you just play bad.

I haven't read the reponces here, but just make sure that $100 a day actually covers stuff like food/travel etc. lol.

agreed is one life op. be realistic and understand that it is a gamble and that it won't be completely smooth.other than that work at it and treat it as a lifetime learning experience and i'm sure you will have success. i wish you all the luck and am happy for you.

Updates?
I only play recreationally & at mostly donk'ish' levels. Can't imagine I'd like playing 'professionally'... knowing you must win would make it a huge grind.

My advice to op would be to learn other fixed limit games. Pros have to think in terms of hourly wages. Sometimes NL hold'em games at the b&m (even 1/2) are really dry, while a omaha hi lo game or a mixed game is super juicy. It's not always about playing the game your best at...it's also playing any game that the other players are worse than you at.

You better watch out! Online you can set table limits so you cannot play above your bankroll even if you want to. Live all you have to do is sit down at that $10/$20 game.

Hope you don't post here in a month whining about how you only have $10k left :-0

I know of one player that played the local casinos on a daily routine ( he claimed to be a winning player). He won 2 tournaments $50.00 buy-in and decided to go for broke and start playing Pro. Within in 6 months after cashing in his 401K he was looking for work again. So much for living out his dream playing poker let alone his looking forward to retirement. When you stop by WalMart say Hi he is now a greeter. Hope you do better GOOD LUCK

Seriously?

OP is saying he's going to gamble away a significant part of his net worth while his income barely covers his living expenses and all you have to say is "Good luck Biff" ?

Do you also go to alcoholic anonymous meetings and offer the participants a beer or two?

Biff Sighting

After Biff explained in detail his plan, it was clear to a few of us, he would not be dissuaded. Even tho we knew the probable outcome, we also knew there was no sane way to convince Biff.

'Good Luck Biff' was honest. Results obvious..............:(.......

But he's not broke. He's headed to the wsop-C MainEvent in Vancouver at the River Rock.
GL Biff!!! Take it down!!! Maybe see you there. If not, can you grab me an autograph from Daniel N.? (my last one went into the washer by mistake)

%I think a lot of us know exactly how it's going to work out for you. %I hope you'll see it before it's too late. %I just wanted to see how I liked putting a random character before %I typed %I. %I didn't get much out of it tbh.

Your funny.

Its been a while since ive been on this site. Yes I have a ticket for main event. Looking back over this thread I wish I had listened to Grafkaro in this post a bit more. 20 grand or more would have been better to have in my past situation to play 1/2 nl live. You can run bad for a few days and find yourself questioning your comitment to continue. I just read another post on this site a few minutes that was so true kinda reminds me of Tony G. You have to have the heart and comitment and a love for the game.

I dunno how you can say bust this tourney is 1675 thats supposed to be 10 percent of your bankroll. Gotta say it did feel kinda sick when I got gome down 17 one hundred dollar bills and having a ticket for poker. Im going to have a good time with it though. Nov 03 come sooner!

Good luck! and you did what you wanted to do, even though you didn't do as well as you'd hope at least you can relax and know you gave it a shot. Have you worked on your game since? You could try again when you think you're ready maybe you'll do better.

. Lets just say that I play more on pokerstars now .
Online is a great training ground for any game! For tournament play you can get just a ton of experience online (& on the cheap!... but with potential of binking something decent!). You're fortunate to have the oppurtunity to play on Stars (as I am... being a Canadian).
GL in the WSOP-C Biff!! I figured you were still going strong & posted over here to let others know that maybe their predictions weren't 100% accurate. Having the buyin for MnEv. would seem 'not busto'.
Hope you make that final table & bust out Roberto on the bubble ;)

You can't beat 1/2 live, for real?

Good luck. It might be a good idea to just set $4k aside for the $1/2 tables and avoid the tourneys all together, or play them purely as entertainment. If you lose the whole $4k, consider just playing for fun until you are beating the game. I wouldn't move up to $2/5 until the $4k grows to $10k. Maybe not spend any of the bankroll unless you have 30 buy ins for the current level.
