ok fair enough. I hope to play live part time when I get home next year. Have very limited experience of it, but the play did seem awfully weak so 10k probably is a decent enough sample. All the best with it! GL!

I'm in a very similar spot to you cheaptrix. I would rather try to grind out low stakes live poker the grind out a min wage job. Both are arguable incredibly painful, but poker is so much more exciting and worth the risk than "do you want fries with that."
I've been crushing my local casino for $60/hr over the past 3 months and see no reason why it should go down. GL (as long as it's never against me)

In general, what are the best hours for live cash games in the casino? I am very interested in the idea of playing next year when I get home, but if it means playing until 4am two nights a week I think that would affect my studies quite negatively.

I never play late at night. I've found that the after work crowd (4-12) to be just fine. There are going to be some days that are better than others but there's no need to stay there all hours of the night. Each casino is different. So, for example, if you're in a more touristy area maybe a later game would be more profitable.
In Barry Greensteins book he said that you'll notice patterns as to when new games form and when the room quiets down the more you play there. I always walk past all the 2/5 tables when I get to my casino to see if a new must move just opened or if it's just a weak game with a lot of unknown players or known weak players. If not it's not a game I want to play in I'll just sit 1/2 and keep an eye out for a new 2/5.

Friday/Saturday night - 11 pm to 3 am when Drunky McDrunk is playing but thinks he's still at the roulette wheel.
The down side of that? Every shark in town will also be there for a piece of that action. Going to have to be very clear on who you do and DO NOT want to get in a hand with.

Another good time is when the 'tourist' players will be arriving or likely to 1st hit the gambling floor. They will sit down at a $1/$2 table with $60-$100 looking to play for just an hour or two before going off to do other things. At MGM there was a steady stream of these players from Noon to 5pm.

Oh freaking absolutely - I totally forgot about Vegas and was assuming a hometown casino.

Yeah at my local mohegan you get a lot of regulars. But if you go at like a Friday night you get a lot of people who won a tournament on pogo.com and think they can do the big leagues now.

seems like 5pm to midnight (haven't played any later here yet) is the best time at my local casino. the senior nits are usually out the door by dinner. i'd be on my way already but my new book is out for delivery.
last time i received a package through the USPS they left it on the porch without so much as a knock. i'll wait for it and then go find some loose tables.
