Imaginary hand. you have nothing... how many outs do you need to make a hero call?
Do you count overcards in your hand as half outs?

A hero call is on the river so there are no more cards to come.
If you mean just to call a bet on the flop or turn then you need to figure out your equity in the hand and compare that with the pot odds the villain is offering you.
If you are behind in the hand and you think by hitting one of your two hole cards will win, then yes you can count these as outs. (Full outs not half outs). So if you need that to happen you will have 6 outs to win. If you go all in on the flop you will be guaranteed to see the next two cards to come, and you will win 24% of the time. If you are not all in, and there is no guarantee of seeing both cards on the flop, or if you are on the turn, you will win 12% of the time. So if it’s costing you more than 12% of the pot to call, you need good implied odds to make the call.

Calculating outs – the heartbeat of poker decisions! It's like trying to count fireflies in the dark; the more you spot, the brighter your chances. Needing a miracle on the river? Count those outs like you're making a wish at a poker genie convention.
Whether it's an open-ended straight draw, flush draw, or the whole kitchen sink, the more outs, the merrier. Just remember, counting outs is an art, not a science. So, how many outs does it take to make your call? Enough to turn a frown into a poker crown! May the odds be ever in your favor.
