It does not bother me when a player hits and runs to much. Normally they are there for the gamble and will loose more often than win. If they win and leave so be it. For the most part I dont do a hit and run. Last time I did I did not like how the game was going and I just 4x my money in one hand. Its just not worth sweating the small things in life.
Like it or not it will continue to happen so to me just part of the game. If I am playing at a cash table with what I call a bingo player (who raises every hand & bets each card in 7 card stud,) for sure I will hit & run if a take his / her cash a couple times. Needless to say they will get lucky sometime so "take the money & run" I usually make it a policy of mine to leave a table once I have doubled up.
It’s call ratholing online. Come in with short stack and try to double or triple up against the deep stack by jamming preflop then leave. Sometimes it doesn’t work sometime it does Deep stack players who sit for hours hate us. When I go to live I get called out for hit and run. Sometimes they just stare at my chips as I get up and leave the table.
I recall playing for couple hours late at night went home at mid nite and then woke up6 hours later Went back to the casino. Saw 3 players at the same table who were playing all night. I sat for one hour Did the Hit and run.
It’s better to be fresh and alert than to play that long as mistakes happen. Do you want to fly on a airplane with sleepy pilot or alert one ? Same with playing poker I think if you feel you can’t play after one hour No reason why you can’t just leave.
I understand they want another chance to win it back. But I can not sit more than 2-3 hours at most at a cash game as my concentration level is gone Sometimes it’s 30 mins and I’m gone.
For that reason I dislike tournaments and will only play tournaments on line and I can do other things at home
I often do this online, I double or triple, I close the table and come back with the starting stack. I don't do that in a live game because I would get criticism straight away and it would be unfair to other players.
Some poker sites including pokerstars and 888 Poker actually dont allow this. If you rejoin a traditional cash table within a certain period of time, you must buy in for the amount, you left with.
We agree that we cannot control the will of other people.
My advice is that you understand this deeply and don't get angry. Keep making the value decisions!
I think, if this important satellite, and means need to reach certain quantity players,
and move in the next, higher satellite, or at once to be in the main tournament... Why not?!
All relate from specific situations: in what form you have in this moment,
what competitors at the table, and in general in this tournament, and etc...
I hit and run pretty often actually, especially if I reach my goal for the day or if I have been running bad so far, for example. I don't quite understand why it is frowned upon. I mean, if someone wins a big pot, why should they risk it anymore or give the loser a chance to win it back? It's their money now and they can do whatever they want with it.
I don't mind if someone does that against me because the money is lost anyway and even if they would stay, that wouldn't change my game; I wouldn't start chasing the money back specifically from them so it doesn't really matter who are playing at the table.
I have done it online to win a buy in to a tournament. I have even seen an article in Cardsplayer outlining how to look for high action tables, buy in for the min and then double and dump. I believe it was in a 2017 issue.
The only time that I feel that it is just wrong is when that person picks up a huge chunk of what is on the table. Doing so just ruins the play and everyone isn't playing for as much as they could.
