A friend of mine used to frequent one of the local casino's $1/$2 NL tables, buying in one time for $200 and within an hour or so won had a monster hand boosting his stack to something like $1100. He immediately got up to leave, and there was a brief discussion at the tables at his abrupt departure without giving them a chance to win some money back,. They accusing him of "taking their money and running". Bad etiquette, they said, to which my friend replied, "I don't know about you guys, but this is rent for me!"

What do you guys feel about proper table etiquette?
Well, it depends on the situation in my view. In a multi-table casino where there are always players I think it's okay to leave after winning.
But if you're in a small club or home game, you go in double and leave the table empty, it's not cool.

There's a saying here in Germany which says you stop at the best time to keep it in the memory and also because it only can get worse. :)
And how do you know it's the best time? if you didn't go further to find out? maybe you stopped earning 10X more ;)

I think this friend of yours is very smart, he took the money from the crazy people and walked away happy.

He has a saying that goes "But a bird in the hand is worth ten birds in the bush".;)(y)

Hi.
I'm not interested in etiquette. I am interested in the result. As I play cash games, I start the game when I want and stop when I want too. A cash game is not a tournament.
Good luck.

Everyone makes the decision that seems best to them, I don't see the problem if they leave, it's not obligatory that you have to stay, if you are already a winner and want to leave, then do it, let the others speak, you don't eat they."

Interesting that I usually play in two poker houses here in brazil, I've never witnessed anything like this, so much so that Saturday 08/27 I won a certain amount and left normally, but when I end up losing, no one says I should stay. It's important to know the place and who the regulars are, watch some matches and the players.

When I played cash games in college, if someone like that came along, we stopped playing.

We believed there was some sort of etiquette about not wanting to arrive, pushing all-in with aces, taking money from friends, and 'walking out'.
There was no rule, but common sense.
We always avoided these types of players at the table.

But of course in a club you don't have to play with friends. Then you can just treat it like business.

It is bad etiquette, and frowned on at most tables but not illegal. Some tables have a set time you must stay and play before cashing out which you agree to before sitting down. If you leave before a couple times, the other players just refuse to allow you sit at there table. Yes this done and the casino will support because all players will leave if you sit. Casino is going to support regulars before a part timer. I have sat a table but gave warning, I only had an hour to play. At least they know and accept it, but I never get much action.

It is generally considered a bad etiquette. Ifs fine unless its frowned upon and you are not allowed in good games.

It's not even a good strategy, if you've won alot of money at the table it's probably because it's soft and therefore you might win more by staying. Also some players will be intimidated by your big stack

Etiquette shmetiquette… there are rules to the game, the rest is just a way to exploit the emotional instability of the person. Everybody should stay true to themselves no matter what the society has to say or think about them. The guy came there to win. He won and left. Who has the right to blame him for anything? He didn’t come there to entertain the emotions of the others. If the opponents lose they will come up with any kind of excuse to prove themselves right, just a human habit of blaming everyone but themselves…

In poker houses where I play cash games in Brazil, if you're winning, you need to stay at the table for at least 1 hour... The manager warns you about this rule before you sit at the table, so it's your choice to play with this rule or not...

As you have mentioned that he frequents the same casino , that might be an issue with other players as they might not play with him . But leaving straight after winning huge pots a bit mistake i think , can play for example 3 or 4 rds of blinds and then in the break make something up n leave. that would be best way to do this

of course, he didn’t break the rules, but you need to understand that poker is also psychology and you should always act respectfully towards your opponents, he didn’t act very nicely and maybe next time they simply won’t want to play with him or they will do the same as him

I'd not care, he never broke any rules. Would they moan the same if he lost his $200 & never re-buy? Of course not, it works both ways.

Hit and run expert... always say as soon as you sit down "I have got to be home in an hour" or "I have to catch a plane in a few hours." If you get a big stack you already told them you are leaving, if you don't get a big stack and want to keep paying no one cares,

I never do that... or do I?

The players at the cash tables also told me so, and when I stayed to continue playing, I always lost my entire bank. Therefore, it is necessary to leave and not pay attention to these conversations.

If I won big like the guy at the start of this post did then I would take the money and run too. After all he went to the table with the idea of trying to win. If he wins then he has accomplished what he came for. He did not come to win and then give it back. If he wanted to do that then he would play with the "play money" tables.
