A friend of mine used to frequent one of the local casino's $1/$2 NL tables, buying in one time for $200 and within an hour or so won had a monster hand boosting his stack to something like $1100. He immediately got up to leave, and there was a brief discussion at the tables at his abrupt departure without giving them a chance to win some money back,. They accusing him of "taking their money and running". Bad etiquette, they said, to which my friend replied, "I don't know about you guys, but this is rent for me!"

What do you guys feel about proper table etiquette?

There's a saying here in germany which says you stop at the best time to keep it in the memory and also because it only can get worse. :)

I think it all depends on where and with whom you play poker. If among acquaintances it is very ugly. And if in the casino and for you this winning is very necessary, then it is permissible, although ugly.

In my opinion they are all correct.

Yes, it is a cash game. Players can leave whenever they want. And so the player has the right to leave for any reason or even no reason.

But the other players want to keep the money on the table and so they tried their best by trying to guilt the player with accusations.

If I noticed this type of behavior at the live cash table, i.e. a certain player leaves whenever he wins a big pot - then I might not give this player action the next time I play with him. That is really all you can do.

Personally - I ignore comments like this when I leave the table.

I have always felt that you should leave at the best time for YOU.....after all you are plating to make money. If you win, why take the chance of staying on when you will almost cetainly give it back?? I think that's crazy

Luck never stays on one of his side for long, so why risk everything you've won again that you lose it again? Of course, the other players are not happy when you leave the table with a certain win, because that means they now have less money. But when you play poker, you want to go home with more than you had before. And after you've won, continuing to play until you've given everything back or lost doesn't make sense to me either.

"Hit and run" is generally frawned upon in cash games, so if I was a regular in the game and expecting to play with the same people in future sessions, I would not do it. I would then at least try to make it less obvious by staying another 2-3 orbits and then perhaps make up some excuse, that something has come up, so I need to go, but thanks everyone for the game, and see you next time. But if it was just a one-time visit to that casino for me, during travel or whatever, then there is really no need to try to keep people happy.

That does not mean, I would automatically leave though. If I am now by far the largest stack at the table, it does not really matter, that I have 1.100$ in front of me rather than the 200$ or whatever, I bought in for. But if other players are also deep stacked, and especially if they are good players on my left, then this might not be an advantageous situation for me. And then its completely legit to just leave the casino or even ask to be transferred to another table, where you can then buy in for 200$ and repeat the process.

Etiquette has nothing to do with it, the main thing is the rules. With the winnings, you do what you want, and you decide when you stop. Sitting down at the table, you know that there is an opportunity to lose, but there is an opportunity to win. In home games, it is best to organize tournaments.

Good afternoon. If I won the same amount of money, ,I would stay and play some more hands but without putting in risk most of my earnings. Then I would tell the other players that I have to get going and go back home happy with the money I earned.

In his case, it seems to me that it would be wrong, and the reason you yourself have given is that your friend "frequented" the local casino, that is, he goes very often, which means that he most certainly knows several with whom he plays , what he said about the rent seems to me an excuse just to leave, because if he visits and spends $200 at a time then it seems to me that he is not very needy for that rent that he says, now the next time he goes, the safest thing is not he will be very well received, but everyone has the right to do what they want so good for him and his income

This behavior is hitting and running and is definitely frowned upon. While its not against the rules, it definitely leaves the remaining players (especially those who’s money has left) very unhappy. That amount of money leaving the table means that’s much less for the players to win.

the other players talked nonsense . why should your friend "give them a chance to win it back" ? ....we play poker to win and not to lose

i would have done it the same way as your friend

I already had read about this table etiquette, but is does not make much sense. That's a good reason why online poker is better.

It all depends on what poker is for you, if it's a way to enrich yourself, then you did the right thing, if you just like the game itself, then you can give an opportunity to win back, which will increase your reputation among other players.

The same etiquette applies in online poker.

If the casino rule says you can do that then theres nothing you can do about it. Just dont give him any action if you meet at tables again is most you can do. Or if everyone gets up to leave thatll be funny😂

This is not against the rules, but it still looks ugly, especially since your friend often played in this casino. I would have stayed anyway and played a few more hands for show, playing very carefully and then left!!!

Everyone has the right to act as they see fit. In my opinion, your friend did the right thing. This indicates his discipline, and etiquette is of no use here. He was playing a cash game, not a tournament, so he had every right to get up and leave whenever he wanted.

In my opinion, your friend did as he saw fit. Because he reached the right amount and was able to stop in time. Leaving some money in the pockets of the guys is not bad etiquette, it's a favor.

In the game for money, the main thing is to stop This isn't a tournament game. This is the player's decision

I played at a $1-2 NL yesterday at the EX , I won $ 650 in 10 mins and I gor up and left. It don't bug me as everyone around the tables was talking badly about me, I really didn't listen to what they had to say. I won its up to me to leave , before I go losing the money I won. At cash tables you have that right to do what you want, tournaments are different you end up have time to lose what you have won. That's why I feel cash games are better to play, yes tournaments are more money to win but longer time at the table to lose it as well. You are playing cash games to win money for whatever you may need, so you don't have to stay sitting there for hours apond hours. Cash games are the faster way of making money , without losing money. So I will always play cash games for some quick money, or you also may lose quickly so you just up and leave on your own terms the way I look at it.

Truly is not against the poker rules. Etiquette in poker would be whereas in a tacit agreement between players (if not online).
