Hey Gang,

So I have been trying to find the game in online poker that is best for me. I usually can run pretty deep in MTT and have one a few. I do well in S&G but I really want to strengthen my cash game play. I always have been a better tournament player but would like to be able to play better in cash games. Anyone have any good tips on the matter that you have used to do well in them?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I'm not the expert in cash games, I'm just starting to study the game and learning a lot so here's some of the tips I can share:
1.- bankroll management: Swings WILL happen, and a proper bankroll management is KEY. Find a game that your bankroll can allow.
2.- Focus on constantly making +EV plays, so that in the long run you can be profitable.
3.- There will be quite a few bad players if you're playing in low limits, so take advantage of them.
4.- Try to study and perfect your game before moving up stakes. If you can't beat the lower stakes where there's plenty of bad players, then you won't beat higher limits where players get more and more skillful.
5.- Try to have fun while playing, bad beats will happen despite you making the right play, some mental toughness is needed.

I do realise those are very general tips, focuses on the "macro" side of poker, but I think it's one of the most important aspects of poker.

  1. Recognize the pressure you can apply in a tournament is not there in cash games. Whereas you can threaten to eliminate another tournament player, in cash games people will call you because they can simply reload if they were wrong. Therefore it might take more $ to run your bluffs. It's important to watch and pick up other players' behaviors to know how much it takes to get someone to fold or at least have an idea about their calling station tendencies.
  2. Keepin mind your stack can drop to 0 instantly. Due to these swings, play much lower stakes until you get a feel for how that level plays. Play low enough stake so that your bankroll has at least 30 buy-ins. (There are many opinions about how many buy-ins your bankroll should have. I've seen recommendations as high as 100+ buy-ins.) That will prevent you from playing scared and allow you to shove when the situation calls for it. Move up to the next level when you have 30 (or whatever # you're comfortable with) buy-ins for that level.
  3. Don't wait to move down in stakes if you seem to be running bad. Most likely you are making mistakes and that will deplete your bankroll quickly. Set a threshhold # of buy-ins, like 20, so that if your bankroll drops to that point, you will recognize you need to move down to a lower level. Move down and get a few winning sessions until your bankroll is back to your target buy-ins for the level you left. If you continue to lose, keep dropping down and study your hands to see what is going wrong.

I think that control management is the most important..
then you have to open 4 or 5 tables and play very tight

Cash game, a game of solitaire

Good morning everyone, the cash game, there is no secret is to play according to the strength of yours, pay attention to the villains and make notes if they are good players or if they are recreational players. It is very important to have patience and wait for strong hands to bet your entire stack, and I downloaded the balance which is free on the pokerstragy website, it has the range to play from each position, after I learned about these ranges my game has improved a lot. Another important tip is to think about the hand that villain can have, avoid making plays that are not profitable, in complicated edges avoid making high bets. I played a hand, which I opened from the MP Ac5c, 2.5x and played against 2 players, one of which, I made a note of being a profitable player. 4s flop 8c Qc the villain on BTN makes a $ bet 0.6 and receives 2 calls turn 4c, which completes the flush, but there is a double card, QQ they don't have because this hand they 3bet preflop, but they may have 44 or 88 which would be a full, the villain who has a good note player makes a bet of 0.41, in a pot of 0.36 with full or quad he will not bet too high, I thought he has the flush, hero of the call and the villain in the BTN call, river is Js, villain with note good player goes All in and villain on BTN call, here I have a difficult decision, I know that the 1st villain has a flush the problem is, which hand of the BTN villain who calls All in on board that has a flush and folded card, the chance is great that he has full, I thought a lot, I spent the whole time bank and made the call and all 3 players have a flush, and I have the flush nut, the question is whether this call is correct or not in the min There is an opinion, this call was wrong because most of the time I will find a full, I won the hand but I think this hand was not played well.

Good day!
I think it's best to watch streams, since there are enough of them (good players who stream their game).

Good morning ...
First of all, please use standart fonts its very hard to read this, also use paragraphs please.
As to the hand you played, first of all its a microlimit table, so i would not give too much thoughts and credit to other players. They would go al in on paired board with flush prety often.
Second - you just call the turn which i think could have been an al in right away. 444 bets there being afraid of 4th suited card to screw up his trips, small flush bets there bein afraid of another card completing a full house, and all those hands would be calling al in for sure.
So thats i think was the first inacuracy, and then the river call well i think it was not a mistake but if limits were higher maybe it will be different but yeah this is what my thoughts are.

I would also advise you to learn all about bluffing. It is impossible to become a successful poker player at stakes higher than micro-stakes if you do not know how and when to bluff correctly.
Examine when your opponents' ranges are weak, the correct bluff frequency, the correct bet sizes, blocker effects, fold equity, equity realization, etc.
You need to be able to properly add trashy bluffing hands to your range of strong hands. For example, out of 2 trash hands, one can be very good for bluffing, while the other can cause you big losses in the long run...

I think the best advice would be just to practice. U dont need a ton of money to practice on microtables, and game is not that all different from mtts. I mean the difference is high level. Like with learning new language practice or go to that country is probably the fastest way to learn, where just go and okay is the best advice.

Why do you think you are doing better in MTT tournaments, but you think you are weaker in cash games? Do you use different game tactics? Try to play classic, I'm sure there are no differences.:)

that's an area i my self isn't to strong either, but i watch videos like high-stake cash games and poker stars runit on twitch to help have a better understanding of how the professionals play, note. they aren't afraid to lose their stack, point don't go in any cash game with your entire bank roll

Take your time when you sit down and dont try to be super aggressive for the first thirty minutes. Online and Live the first thirty minutes of the cash game should be watching and learning your players. Watch what hands the show and showdown and watch who always wins before showdown. Find the donk and exploit him and stay away from the luck box til his stack starts to fall. In a cash game there is very little reason to Get it in pre flop. You Can Be As Tight As You Want no need to be fancy til you get to know the players very well.

Best thing you can do to improve your cash game strategy is be aggresive. Today the games are very tight because most players know they can not win every hand. Just steal, cbet, raise, 4 bet and shove rivers with air.
Balancing range is not that important when playing with average players but it is important to use these techniques to win chips while waiting for the big hands.

I think that in tourneys you can be more agressive and it pays off, but in cash game you risk/reward is not that good to be shoving like in tourments

Funny thing, today i got doubled up like 4 times with people bluffin on me their whole stacks. And i did not even had much, hell, one time i had KJ high. Just some weird feeling u know, that it does not make sense what your oppontnt doing.
So i would argue with your strategy of playin like a maniac.

I play microlimits on ACR. And im actually pretty agressive at times. U just must know how to do it. If u just go a complete maniac not even lookin at the table, when u can bet when u can not, u get into a guy like me taking your stack with King high

Also, professional players play with a thermal imager all the time and determine the strength of hands by the heart rate of their opponents ))
They are also in no hurry, as advised above, and spend the first half hour of the game calibrating the device...

Hi! The best way for me is to watch casino game streams. There are lots of them on youtube. But I also find a great Dutch platform https://nederlandscasinos.net/online-poker/ with different tips. They also have a blog with news and you can also find an English version there. So I can recommend it. I can also send you some good youtube streamers if you can't find a good one.

I believe the main tip is to stay calm and treat it like another game

Maybe you should find experienced players in this discipline and watch them play? (for example streamers). Of course, their own experience is much more important than observation, but sometimes very useful methods and strategies can be learned from their actions and explanations ...
This is just one of the ways that helps me, it can be combined with others :)

My tips would be:

1-Buy the maximum buy in* (The most important tip for my strategy):
2-In position, once you are deep stack, play more "suited connectors".
3-Minimum raise aiming to isolate, once you are deep stacked, is something about 3-5 BB (give preference to 5 BB).
4-Try to steal positions, when possible, with hands you would play in position.
5-Avoid to variate your raises (If you are raising 5, raise 5 every hand you decide to play, no matter the hand strength).

*Notice you can play Cash games with 1/4 or 1/2 of the maximum Buy in, however you will need to play more "all-in" in order to steal blinds.
