As far as I know no site will allow it. Now if u change tables thats a whole different story

Yeah I just change tables.

It turns out rat holing and going south are not exactly the same thing.

There is a technial difference between "Rat Holing" and "Going South".* Rat holing is cashing out from a table and returning to the table with a buy-in that is smaller than the ammount that was cashed out.* Going south is taking chips off the table and puting them in your pocket so that they are not in play but the player did not cash out.

Is rat holing a bad idea in general? When would one not consider it a breach of etiquette? Ik online poker has a rat hole cooldown, do some casinos prohibit it or does it just irk people?

Many have a rule that you cant take money out and cant come back with less than you left with. Most online ring games also have this rule. Online etiquette is out the window, but live it upsets people because they want a crack at felting you and they cant do it if you take your money out. If you are at a great table (tons of shitty players) this can be a good strategic move if you are up 10x or something and your bankroll cant handle a 10 buy in loss.

That has been said and clarified. I did tell the cardroom manager (the next day) what I'd done and explained how it was intentional and wouldn't happen again. As mentioned earlier I wish I could just delete this post lol, but I suppose it's good to leave up so nobody else makes the same mistake!

There is no reason to delete this. As I have never played live, but intend to very soon, this is helpful Info. As I learned last year when new to CC, that by checking my Royal on the river(i was new, holding a grand kid and talking to wife while playing and didn't think i could get a bet) was not allowed in live poker. But like you said live and learn..Have a good un! OH and GRATS on the car cash.

There is no reason to delete this. As I have never played live, but intend to very soon, this is helpful Info. As I learned last year when new to CC, that by checking my Royal on the river(i was new, holding a grand kid and talking to wife while playing and didn't think i could get a bet) was not allowed in live poker. I don't mind keeping it up, just kinda embarrassed. It was an important lesson, and I have a permanent reminder now of a mistake I'd made lol. But if it helps prevent other newbies from the same, all is well
