"In my humble opinion one of the best cash game poker books is Professional No-Limit Hold 'em: Volume I
by Matt Flynn (Author) , Sunny Mehta (Author) , Ed Miller (Author)"

I've been reading this lately. It really is very good and has helped my cash game quite a bit. The early sections are great, and the middle REM (range, equity, maximise) stuff is just wow, excellent. The later SPR (stack to pot ratios) section hurt my head with its complexity, but that's only due to me being a newb! Something to return to and keep studying for sure.

Sorry guys, not sure why I thought it was the blue book, gave it to my friend a while ago who lost it, I just happened to forget the correct name. The poker blueprint is the correct name.

I don't know if its the best book out there but i know its one i enjoyed and found helpful. Caro s most profitable hold em advice The Complete Missing Arsenal. It is very informative and talks about topics left out of alot of other books. It also has really good charts and statistics that better help you understand the topics in the book. I'd definately recomend it .

Super System is a classic - no one can deny that. But each time someone recommends it as the essential work I have to question what else they have read on the subject. Since SS came out 35 years ago an incredible amount of poker books have been published - multiplying (not just adding to) the number available in 1979 when it came out. Not only has the game evolved and changed, so have teaching methods and writing styles on the subject. And while I am not going to say SS is not worth a look I (and I think anyone else who has a poker library that covers more than one shelf will agree with this...), I can say that since SS was published several books. training sites, blogs, etc. have vaulted above and beyond what Doyle put forth 35 years ago. In other words, several authors (and groups of authors) have just done it better.
Also be aware that SS is NOT about Texas Hold Em - at least not until about page 330. Up until that point it is focused on Draw, 7-Card Stud, Lowball, High-Low, Razz, etc. And not much, if any, in the way of tournament strategies. So if you are only playing Hold'Em, this is probably not the book to start out with.
I have no problem with someone saying it is a must read, as exposure to these other games and their strategies will help stretch your own strategic muscles in Hold Em or whatever. Don't be fooled though. This is NOT (though it was at one time) the ultimate strategy book, ESPECIALLY if you are only playing HoldEm.

Also, the answer to this question is rooted in what stakes you are playing for. Strategies radically change as the blinds go up. What you can do (and what will be done to you) in a .10 BB game compared to a $10 BB game are very different. Not to mention live vs online.

Without that information it's just a guess and most people are going to offer up the book that helped them in their stakes and situation, which is also not usually mentioned. Point is a lot of these suggestions can be very misleading to you and could end up hurting your bankroll. So the more specific you are about the help you are looking for the more specific the help you will get. And being specific is pretty damn important when playing poker.

This book may be good, but I highly doubt it is worth the ridiculous price tag that comes with it.

Lisen, I believe very much that any poker book can be good for both tournament and cash. Even if its specifically made for tournament, a lot of the concepts you learn apply both ways. So I would just ask which is the best poker book, period.

That's not right.Tournament and cash are so different that we can almost take them as just two different games.I remember that is said by Sklansky.

I still like Small Stakes No Limit Holdem by Ed Miller et al., I've read it about 3 times now.

Also, Easy Game as mentioned above is a good read to get you on the right path. I have the 3rd Edition, which has some updates, footnotes, further thoughts and extra chapters on the previous editions by Andrew Seidman.
At home I have the first edition, which reads my uncle. He says that it is a bit dated and some of its methods are no longer valid.
Which section do you consider the best?

harringtons book is fine and probably crushing the microstakes (i have not read it, but heard it lays the fundaments down well). it sounds like you need a good book for the fundamentals of poker. As you get a little better poker blueprint will take you a long ways and will lead you into more advanced theory.

i would not advise supersystem at this time. it has a alot of good ideas, but might cause you to spew a little bit to much without more experience. it is little bit outdated and does not fully show how to implement all ideas.

books like, let there be range are very good and have alot of advanced concepts. it is more a book for you when you get higher in stakes. at lower stakes you just do not need all the advance concepts and it might hinder your profits because small stakes players play different.

all poker books will be outdated and unhelpful.

I would recommend a coaching site.

I learned years ago to play limit from Small Stakes Holdem by Malmuth, and then later on I learned NLH from Harrington on Holdem 1 & 2.

In today's absurdly aggressive games with ever changing dynamics, books are almost worthless IMO.

Generally this although I've heard there are some good ebooks out there. Ryan fees, blackrain etc would be a better investment than harrington or doyle.
