Hand converted by PokerTracker 4: http://www.pokertracker.com
Hero (SB): $2.25
Could you please share original HH so we can try different converter.
We could try decoding this. Hero had Ac5s right?
with that flop was JJ8 rainbow.
You have no business 3 bet bluffing A5o on SB vs MP IMHO
As played isnt this flop ideal for cbet in a 3bet pot? Fire a barrel and if called check fold turn, even if the A hit the turn and you connect you dont beat much there
Entering the game with a 5A hand, and even more so making a re-raise, you are unlikely to count on an ace, due to the weakness of your kicker. Most likely street for good luck and then you can raise good money. But for some reason such thoughts disappear when an unexpected ace appears on the table, and the villain shows weakness. In this case, a sham. In general, with similar hands they play in late positions or against BB if all the others fold. Conclusion: you yourself are trapped.
You min 3bet with A5o
This acomplashshies very little as now all Villan has to do is call 5c to win a 35c pot. Yes he's out of position but those are some good odds.
What hands are you representing in your 3 bet range that you then check with on this textured flop?
Would you do this with AA?
Would you do this with AK?
Would you do this with Jx
Would you do this with flush draw/straight draw (if their in your 3 bet range?)
Now you bet 2/3rd pot
Again what are you trying to represent/what hands would you do this for value with?
If your trying to fold out all his missed over cards why?
Would he fold an over/under pair? Would you?
He checks, you bet half pot
What calls that you beat?
He raises and you call. What bluffs does he have that you beat?
(If we assume he folded some if not all of his less valuable overcards to your turn bet)
What hands in his range do you loose to?
If it were me I would have s look at some hand ranges online and see what a good 3bet range looks like and what a good 3bet size is.
Then answer the questions above again based on those
As a few others have said, I think the biggest mistake was not cbet the flop. You told a story that you were strong for 3 betting, but didn't follow up post flop with the same story. If you would have cbet, he would have called and from there it would be check fold. He has a lot of J's in his range as well as pocket pairs and 910s cards, probably discounted some as he called a 3bet but he does have position.
Also, should have 3 bet a slightly higher amount as you are out of position post flop.
Its been said already, but this click-it-back 3-bet is just terrible. He is never folding, when he need to put in 1BB to win a pot of 7BB. You also dont get value, when you have a strong hand. And finally you reopen the betting for him. When people do this against me, I will often put in a 4-bet with any decent hand. With A5s I might 3-bet to 8BB (4x his open), but A5o I would just fold
As played I agree with checking this flop. You missed completely, and you dont have many strong hands here. He is more likely to have a J, and even your QQ-AA would not love getting raised on this board. So this is a good spot to do a lot of checking.
Not sure I love the delayed C-bet either. You did not pick up any equity, and you should never have been here in the first place. So I am still just looking to give up and cut my losses with my garbage hand.
I guess, its ok to go for some thin value now, but I probably size it smaller. You are trying to get called by hands like TT or 99, and they might fold even to this size. When he raise, its definitely weird, and he only represent something, that he sandbagged earlier on. All the draws missed, but this in itself does not mean, he is likely to play his draws this way.
I think, we need to move to level 3 thinking here and consider, what he think, you have after 3-betting pre, checking flop, delay C-betting turn, and now betting the river, when the A hits. For him this probably look like, you have AX, and usually a good AX like AK or AQ.
So the question is, does he feel, that its a great idea to bluffraise and try to make you fold a strong top pair, that you just made? Or is he thrilled, you improved, because now he can get paid? And I think, the answer here is pretty obvious. He is thrilled to see that A, because he think, that now he can finally get paid
