For the record, nothing about this player's game suggested that he would make a move like this as a bluff or semi-bluff. I was pretty sure he was ahead when I called, and was trying to protect his hand.

Look your hand. You are in a 3-bet pot in a difficult situation. You're out of position and your cards aren't nasty but they could trail behind better draws.
Think that villain has better overcards in his range since you are drawing for down. You couldn't have a more unlucky oesd in this situation.
You should have a very specific read to continue after a > 10x raise! Since you will most likely find the strongest possible value hands around here. In this case it was the third best possible hand!
Greetings.

You gave yourself the best analysis...

"For the record, nothing about this player's game suggested that he would make a move like this as a bluff or semi-bluff. I was pretty sure he was ahead when I called, and was trying to protect his hand."

If he's ahead and you aren't getting good odds, just fold! F#ck your hand. Call with KK, TT, and QJ and fold the rest

Just fold!. Dude! Do that and you will crush 2nl.

----

Other than that, make sure you are balancing your 3-bet frequencies. 78s should be a partial even versus the button. I woudn't raise it more than 25% tbh.

Preflop raise 4x at minimum when out of position.

On KT9, you bet 75% pot. I think that is way too big for this board. QJ is the nuts and you both can have that. V has TT and 99 as well.

I like a 50% pot bet, but easier than that is just a depolarized 1/3 bet with your whole range. Either way you will have to play defensively on this board out of position.
----

Good luck man, keep playing! And always be defensive deep stacked (I have huge problems with that too!)
