So I am playing a 1-2 game here in Florida and came upon this hand. I wanted to see what others thought.
9 handed you are in utg+1 and are dealt 6d6h. Utg raises to 40 ( a move here in Florida we refer to as " I have Jacks " ). This player is an older gentleman who played very face up and has 200 effective. Utg+1 reraises to 90$, this player is late 20s early 30s playing very tight with 550 effective. I have a 390 stack.
Do you fold? Do you call?
Why do you do whatever you choose? Is it based on position, stack???

So if the hero is utg +1 and UTG +1 reraises to 90$ doesn't that mean you reraised?
:p

pocket sixes

Coincidentally the tournament I am in right now had pretty much same situation. UTG1 raised. Utg2 re-raised and mp called the all-in. he had pocket sixes..........he never caught and the aces won. just not strong enough most of the time.

Hi BlackRain, Is there somewhere I can learn about the set mining odds? A chart a link?

Anyone? Bueller?

You flop set 1 time in 8, roughly 12%.

The pre flop raiser/person you are set mining on should have at least 10x back, after raise. $10 raise, dude should have 100 back.

Most people prefer 15x or more implied odds, 20x is ideal. I will settle for 10x in cash game, I like 15x better, and 20x is super nice to stack them.

I like to play somewhat aggressive or even loose with pocket pairs pre flop. I suppose that has mostly to do with playing in a weekly game against familiar players. That said, I'm folding 6's in this spot also. Good fold.

Fold, sounds like your opponents are ahead and you only have a 1/7 chance of flopping a set.

You gotta jam here, the only way you can triple up. They'll be too smart to call it off when you hit your 6 anywhere on the board. So shove it in there now in order to get max value.

No, seriously, it's a fold, no question.

First of all, what casino is this and where? Do people normally raise 40 or 50 preflop there in 1/2?

What a juicy table. I love it. If 1/2 is played like 5/10, I love that place.

I fold.

It's Florida. This is extremely common.

Easiest money (if you're okay with variance and can play long enough) is clearly in Florida and Southern California, for different reasons.

Funniest thing in the world seeing guys from there or who chopped there come play in the heart of the Midwest - Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin. Unless it is Horseshoe Hammond or a tour stop, they're always getting owned.
