Hi there,
I would like to ask that you include your table position in the future. This would help give a better picture and advice. Even better if you could join
https://www.boomplayer.com/ to share your
hands in real time.
Others can help me here if I go wrong, but here goes...
Pot is at least 24k and player bets 26k. Pause here and think..
Villain is betting, 3 x BB indicates that he has a premium hand and may have hit a K as part of his range. You are now faced with 9 heart outs with the turn and river to come.
Here I use the 2 - 4 rule and multiply the 9 outs by 4 to calculate my
odds of hitting a heart to complete the flush which gives
36 %. 36/100 can be rounded off to 40/100 = 2 / 5 = 1 : 2.5 as a ratio. This means that you can call Villains bet, if you get those
pot odds. So lets take a look...
You now have to bet 26k to a pot of 50k which looks a little below 1:2 odds and does not quite merit a call {pot odds are not better than odds of hitting} and absolutely not a shove as yet
. You can still choose to gamble since it is close but mathematically speaking a fold is best!
Now on the turn you hit a flush and this I believe is the best time to shove all-in.
You have a scare card in your favour and may get a sensible player to fold seeing three hearts on the board.
Shoving after the flop is not well timed in my opinion because barring you hitting a set holding pocket pairs, villain expects you to have KT, KQ,KJ, AK in your range and he beats most of them. However, he may entertain them being suited and fold on the side of caution if you shove after the third heart hits the board. He may very well gamble on the 4th heart holding the nut flush but I believe you are still better off shoving on the turn.
I would like to get your feedback and that of others on this and wish you all the best.
I hope this reply was clear.
Checking your pot odds to call is very important in poker and timing matters a whole lot.
