Well hi there, I play online poker and pub league poker.

I prefer online poker because you know wherer you are a bit more if you at least give your opponents credit for pot odds to their draws and to fold if they have sweet fa.

In these kinds of tourneys some players have no ideas about position and think they have a great hand with pocket 10's in utg, or even worse QJ mid or KJ on the big blind, all of these can be and are often raised willy nilly.

Now this is a rather bizzarre and almost unreal scenario yet these were my first 3 hands in a 9 player live tournament after I busted from the league game.

So my question is, if you have a tourney with 30 players and a 5000 starting stack, 25/50 first blind level and 20 min blinds to final table then round plus 1 to final 3 then make it up as you go.......

You pick up KK first hand, 4th to act everybody calls to you.

Second hand you are dealt QQ.

On your third hand you are dealt KK.

What do you do?

Obv KK is a nice starting hand yet the blinds are low. a 3x 4x 5xbb raise would be normal for me later in the tournament but right now youre gonna get callers from people who've just sat down and want to see the first hand if you raise to 150 or 200.

I decided I would raise to 600 after there was talk about hoping nobody would raise so I smiled and said I gotta raise. (I know all of my opponents by name and see them from time to time in these league games across the region.) I got 3 callers and a Q 8 3 flop, I bet 2000 on the flop, 2 callers, turn J. I go all in and get called by AQ who goes home first hand.

Second hand QQ. Well I got no respect for my 600 raise so this time I raised to 650 just to make it a little different, I just wanted one opponent and no A no K on the flop, to be honest I dont remember the flop but I had overpair with the Q's, Still 2 callers to the flop. I think I gotta be ahead so I simply go all in. Tuts groans and folds, so I show the QQ and say, come on what did you think I might be holding?

Very next hand I get KK again and raise to 700, this time one caller bet the pot on the flop, no more action, just more groans, moans, I flicked over the Kings to the table, hardly a word. So 3 hands in and Im sitting on a nice stack.

In each situation Im certain I was called by a fairly good ace, I just did well and wasnt outlucked.

What Im asking is do these premium hands have an intrinsic value related to starting stack and the very low blinds.

Im pretty happy with the outcome and now Ive set the precedent I think I'll continue to bet 10xBB min this early unless some of you have different Ideas or twopenceworth to add.

I do enjoy online poker and strive to become a better player, something I think I acheive each month i hope, Prob play 4hrs per day , 2 live matches per week.

My net loss online is probably $100 us, I currently have about $70in balances.

By contrast Im up >$2500 in live free poker in leagues and pubs with finals games every 10 weeks or so and free prizes/drinks too. I recently became overall champion 2009 and won an $850 seat to an NZ pokerchamps tournament, I ogt 19th out of 76 entrants. I was 96% after the flop Pairing my king hearts and giving me a flush draw. Villain holds J8 clubs to get runner runner two pair. 10 got paid. Boos.

So realistically whilst I learn and become better online for micro stakes, the most important aspect of my poker game is still playing against donks who luck out every night against others one way or another, im trying to avoid these pots/opponents without a real nice hand. Obv nitty tight preflop play is a given to give you a chance of out flopping someone who says "how much do Ihave to put in?"

Any new ideas?
