The board is K68 all clubs. The pot is 2000. I have 4K behind me and shove allin with AK spades. The other guy has to call 4k to win 6K. Thats 1.5 to 1 odds. He has Ad Qc. He has about 37% chance to get there by the river. Is his call correct? If not what would the odds need to be for his call to be correct?

Im just not sure the shove is a good move here and I tend to do it all the time when the board is suited and I have top pair no draw-trying to get him to fold, or make a mistake. But Im not sure his call is a mistake. seems close. thanks;

Well since he's getting 1.5:1 odds, he needs 40% equity for the call to be profitable in the long run (ignoring ICM and other considerations), so his call is a mistake by 3%.

Thank you. I just pulled up some charts and saved them to remind me.

I figure he would need around 1.7 to 1 for his call to generate a prfoit.

This is a MTT and after reading sklansky, he doesnt recommend calling 80% of your stack on a draw in teh first hour of the tourney-so I consider it a mistake for him to call whether he was getting the odds or not.

I guess I should maybe bet 2/3 of the pot on flop and no flush card on the turn = jam and obviously if he check raises me allin Im calling.

Thanks cjatud-appreciate it

Well, in tournaments , I might call even if the odds are (slightly) against me, and mathematically EV-.
This for some reasons:
-I might get a chiplead if I win the hand and can use this to bully the table, so implied odds in the following hands.
-or I can use the image I create to be calling/shoving light to get value in other hands where I do have the nuts and people are calling me light for that reason.

Kind of depends on the other players.
In this case however, I would never have been calling.
Besides the chance the river is no club, if it is, you might have the A clubs.
To me it's a clear fold.
Unless very shortstacked I never risk 80 % of my stack with a draw in a MTT, unless the odds were definite in my average.

Can't say I like the big flop overshoves.... we're folding out hands that we could be getting value from (ie. KQ, QQ, etc.)

bad call imo

You turn your hand face up when you shove he knows your not shoving the ac. your shoving to protect your hand which i dont really like, id rather bet to induce a shove your going to fold out a lot of middle pair hands that you crush as well. In MTT's people play for the win. Mathematically it is not correct since he is a 37% dog
