Equity Ranges

Hello,

I'm a little new to the forum, but i just got an App on my iphone called Preflop+ which has lots of great features, training etc.

I'm a little stuck though as in one of the training games, it gives you Hero and Villain ranges, and asks how much equity does Hero have.

How do you calculate this without using a calculator? Or is this what they're asking. I'm a little confused and any help would be great.
