Unless I am playing in a private game or had a few to drink I mute the chat and on poker stars you can ignore individual players by left clicking their name and clicking on block chat.
As some of the others said the worst thing you can do is stoop to their level and trade insults.

I am surprised sometimes by players with the worst hand and they offend you for that that game was yours with the senior hand

I would say this is the breakdown of trash talkers at the tables (online)

5% - Trying to make up for lack of skill by trying to tilt player and make everyone uncomfortable enough to not want to play.
5% - Venting frustration over perceived "bad beats", on tilt, etc;
15% - common "A" holes and immature lowballers - you know, just not nice people online or in person.
75% - Just total TROLLS who know they can get away with it. In person, they would be total chickens, never saying anything close to what they would in the comfort of mom's basement while online. Attention seekers who, in real life, never stand out and never could but who become, well, TROLLS, online.

i disable it, what are you going to talk to them about anyways

I agree. I have nothing to say and I dont care what the other players have to say. I suppose I would be a boring live player but eh this is online.

I find it amusing to a point. When it gets offensive and disruptive, when more than 3 people get involved is disruptive I just turn it off. Who keeps it on other than those involved... Why?

Not offended at all.

Let them continue their tilt until they commit mistake.

Rather speak at the table and not at the chat box.

I like it when people have friendly chat at table. Get to find out where they're at, interest, etc. Sad, too often idiots ruin chat rooms to the point its hardly worth turning them on.

LOSERS !!!

Hi to all the readers...I'm writing this post coz of some "Losers" out there playing who does'nt know the meaning of the word " RESPECT " i know all of us experience a really bad loosing streak or the worst bad beat...and we know that trash talking is part of the game but some is so below the belt like some racist words and this one really triggers me is talking about my family ...not once or twice i experience that...well i think i have to change my profile family picture when i'm at the table..and before i end this just wanna say that there's a lot of means to express on how you feel when you lose like punching your monitor so you can't play anymore at least you only hurt yourself and by the way it's your fault on why you lose don't blame the other players... well thats it for me PEACE .....To all the readers pls comment or write some opinions messages to those whinning lossers...

This usually doesn't bother me but I have to admit it did a few days ago.
Some goof made the comment that I hope your mother dies to which I did not respond which is my standard operating procedure. He persisted and said I hope your mother gets cancer and dies which hit too close to home because my mother did get cancer and die several years ago when she was quite young.
I felt obligated to reply and said that my mother did die from cancer and that he (assumed it was a he) was " a disgrace to his country and family for making such a comment and the HIS MOTHER would be ashamed of him. That was the end of the conversation. Hopefully he will think about it and learn to behave like a human being.
And that is all I have to say about that.

This seems pretty obvious but chat does not bother me or should anyone because you have the option to turn it off. Sometimes I engage when I know I should not, but there are times you just need to get it out. Obviously if you do it with some sort of adultness it will not be bad, but I go overboard sometimes, and I regret it right after. If you do not like to chat or care turn it off, if you do not mind let it ride and get a laugh of what others say and do...

To be fair; poker, especially when there's money on stake, can be a frustrating game. And for precisely that reason I have my chat (voluntarily) disabled on most sites I play. When the bad beats comes thick and less than stellar opponents are running hot, anger management is a difficult art to master. If it bothers you or interferes with your game just disable the chat.

Absolutely not, and while I find offensive chat annoying, I accept it as a strategy that other players use.

Well, I don't know if it's strategy, I mostly see it as a clear sign of tilt. Sometimes you can use the frustration against them. If you want to be 'that guy'.

Bad chatters and table bullies are a sign of a larger societal problem. If you can't mostly behave here, at what is primarily a choice of playing a FUN hobby/occupation, you probably are a potential wife/husband/child beater too. Really. Yes, you. The NFL is starting to get serious about the problem; hopefully poker and social sites will follow suit. (Clubs, of course. To the Hearts.)

I do not find it offending but there is a mixed thought for me. Sometimes I find it hilarious. Being called a donk, fish, nazi, and worse after either sucking out on someone or actually already having the better hand and having most of thier chips. Also I find it sad in some cases. Poker is considered a sport. Therefore it should be respected as one and all parties should act in a sportsmanship conduct. When one wins they should be congradulated, and not ridiculed. I believe that some cultures may not recognize poker as a sport yet and this is the reason for the unsportsmanship behavior.
