I am also confused about this. Men are generally stronger than women, that's why poker or any other video game should be perfectly equal. Women get delt AA as much as any man. I think this will change in the future, video games and poker being mainstream is relatively new compared to any other sport.

I actually think a good percentage of women play poker better than men because they have better intellectual and emotional skills.

I don't think women like sitting around a bunch of smelly, drunk old farts to play a game...

I'm a man, but i would like to sitting around a bunch of smelly drunk old farts neither  LMFAO! Thanks God, you brought us online poker!! :adore:

Ah yeah, i forgot my 2 cents for the question of the thread, because of laughing too much on previous quote :)
I think in general girls in poker are better than guys, simply because it's rare, that girl feel in love with poker, but if she does, she takes it most time more serious, than most guys, who are just there for a little gambling fun. Girls do like risks way much less, than guys do, that's what psychologists say. It has to do with women's attitude to keep family safe. Reckless gambling is opposite thing to that. And as it seems psychologists are right. Men are really more tending for gambling and reckless actions. But it's all has nothing to do with playing poker responsible, as most plus regs do. So if you see a woman playing poker on regular basis i would be careful with her. Most likely she is a good reg and she knows what she is doing.

It would be unfair to mix women and men in every other sport except poker!! Poker is a game of mind and luck. Gender plays no role, don't confuse gender with personality.

Honestly, as a woman, I don't think it's "bad" to say a generalized statement like "why do so few women play poker?" If it's a statistical fact, there's nothing wrong by exploring reasons. Maybe it signifies that overall women find less interest in the game? Maybe it could signify something deeper, but I don't think that's likely.

Playing live games, it's not a "boys club" -- there are usually at least 1 or 2 females at a table.

More than gender, I find that age range is more predominant than gender with poker players tending to range 50+ (as a majority - both male & female). At least in live games.

As a female, I think women have a large advantage where men often underestimate playing skill -- can't complain there! :D

I'm teaching my wife how to play poker. She sometimes plays, but it's not interesting. I can't help it.)

I think the problem with generalized statement is where he says women are playing calm and don't bluff. That's not just sexist, that's plain ignorant.

why do not many women play poker. think that they should play more closely because the woman is more sensitive and calmer than the men and afraid to risk too, so they hardly bluff.
Maria Lampropolus is a good example of all the adjectives you mentioned above.

Hi all,

Here's a woman that started to play poker. From my pokerstars name or picture you cannot tell I am a woman, maybe that is also the case for others? Is it possible that because of that we are underestimating the amount of woman that play poker?

I read a lot about woman that hardly bluff. If this is really what most men think I am for sure going to show in my picture that I am a woman haha. I do it quite often, would be really nice if people think I don't have it in me to bluff.

There are a lot of women playing poker, but is not good to have a woman in a table with a lot of men talking because these are not so polite

Nice generalization of female poker players.
Apart from wrong, woman will use your prejudice at the tables and remove your chips.
P.S. I doubt that its reasonably possible to identify gender based on playing style, at least not at the cardschat games where both men and women take advantage of every mistake I make; no 'ahh poor newby, let me fold so he keeps his chips'.

Women are better at driving a car

LOL! Right.....

Anyways, it basically comes down to men and women being different. Men and women have different likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, etc. No matter how much women scream that they can do anything a man can do (or vice versa I suppose), it is simply nonsense.

Men tend to be more competitive, whether or not that's a good thing.

If I win your money, does it matter if you're female or male? Nope.

If you win my money, does it matter if you're female or male? Nope.

Doesn't matter to me, and online, who can tell anyway? Every person has their own way of playing, it's up to me to learn it...male or female, it's still a game of skill, luck and learning tendencies.

I think, if I believed that women all played a certain way, those same women would clean my bankroll out in no time. But that's the same with men.

Worrying about the distinction is a huge waste of time, if you ask me.

Wait a minute, what? Now you really confused me. As i thought poker is more like game of young.. okay relative young people nowadays. Unfortunately i don't play live myself, as it's too high limits in my local casino for my Bankroll still and i simply can't afford to pay 100 euro for a tournament so far. But i been watching many different poker series from around the world wsop, WPT, GPT, NAPT, RPT and some others. What i've seen there is that most of the players been at age from 20 to 40 years old, maybe middle 40. But i really can't say that there were too many of 50+ players. I don't know, but as it seems at local american (you are from US right?) casinos at lower limits or cash game tables it's different to big tournament series..

Subscribed by me here. Correct. Obviously woman at the table wouldn't affect a really good player, but it does to bad players indeed. Some are really tending to play more loose and silly aggressive in a way against woman. A macho syndrome probably. Some are vice versa, thinking, that all women are playing just like nits and do never bluff. Both of behavior are very exploitative and give you additional advantage over your poker skills. I'm envious to the female players about it in a way. :)

Women have many other hobbies, sewing, knitting, etc., Poker for men like fishing.

Really? Is that what you think women do as hobbies these days, sew and knit? I'm a woman and I enjoy mountain biking, metal detecting, rock climbing and many other things. Open your mind dude, we need to get out of these gender roles!

There are sports and games of force that women can not compete with men; but poker is about intelligence, study, strategy and patience; where women can participate and someday be from you to you against men. The problem is in the time that they can dedicate to poker because they have more responsibility at home.

It is a pity that few women play poker. It would have been much more fun

I believe there is a certain fear on their part, of suffering some kind of prejudice. But there are testimonies of some Brazilian professional poker players that besides jokes they are also persecuted in calls during the games.

My simple reply here is please watch Victoria Coren-Mitchells win at EPT London 2014 to see just how good she mixes bluff play with solid hands and builds up such a strong table image - she gets some amazing hands through when underdog.

Its nothing to do with gender...its a numbers game :)

I agree only that they are calm, the rest disagree (but respect his reasoning). There are many women who play very well and consequently bluff well, simply by that thought like his to find that they do not have the guts.
