you think poker, a game, a sport or a dangerous addiction, I see it as a game with a dangerous vice tendency, but I think it depends a lot on the personality of the player.

I agree. You can even lose a lot of money in chess, if you really want :)

I enjoy playing Poker. For me, it's an entertaining hobby, but not everyone is the same. I have spent hours upon hours playing on occasion, but as long as I'm still eating, sleeping, working etc. then it's not a problem for me.

It helps that I haven't put any real money into online poker

I see it as a game and it is a game. It needs skills and maths. It also needs luck, but it is not gambling.

I think that as in any area of life, anything practiced in excess is not positive. And that although the casino, roulette, poker, or any other card game can achieve a vice in people, it really depends on how fragile is the mind of that person to fall into vice. I think poker is not really the problem. So I can not consider poker a dangerous vice, at least, no more than any other card or casino game

It's definitely a game, definitely not a sport, and it can absolutely be a dangerous vice/addiction.

Poker is not a sport and in the words of Mrs Betty Slocombe "I am unanimous in that". As for it being a game with a dangerous vice tendency, I cannot argue with that. Although I must add, the vast majority of players would just treat it as a game and not get too hung up on the vice side.

I would definitely agree that poker is not a sport. It is gambling but not on the same level as gambling at the lottery or something similar. Skill and strategy are important. Not sure that it's a dangerous vice - as long as your home game doesn't allow guns and knives!

Poker is not a sport but a game of chance in which people either win or lose a lot of money, those people who play expensive tournaments or play big bets in cash games to them in this game need a lot of skills of patience and luck, and for those who play Only freerolls are not expensive for them is entertainment but sometimes they win!

Yeah, but only if you can't spot the cheaters. I played at Washington Sq. in NYC a few times when travelling and its great to play a good player in chess but it's not a fun thing when you know the other fellow is looking for opportunities to cheat. There are a few good YouTube videos from some of the well known magicians who caught these shenanigans on tape.
Visit Paul the Russian if you're in NYC - he knows chess but I can't say anything about his poker skills.

Well we have government commission which regulates all gambling and it defines poker as "sport game with elements of gambling". I personally do not agree about the sport part too much. If i try to play tennis for example with a professional player i will not be able to win a single game for sure no matter how hard i try. In poker everybody can win a single hand even against the best players. For me poker is a game with elements of chance. If you treat it as a game and do your best to improve your skills you will win more frequently than you loose but you can't win all the time and that makes it interesting.

About the vice element - well that is much more related to individual people's character than anything else. If gambling is in your head you will find on what to gamble to spend your money. Most hardcore gamblers need the thrill caused by the element of chance or luck in a gambling so for example roulette or slot machines would be much better choices than poker for such people. As already said - key is not to be obsessed by poker just like with anything else.

I agree with what was said in the introduction. For most of us, poker is a game, but we need to be aware of the potential risks.

I don't see poker as a gambling, i see the game where u play with your brain, body moves and with your intelligence. It's really up to the personality, but if u set up your brain as its gambling and your looking to make millions of it in 1day you cannot. I'm looking poker like sport. It's my work and i'm working everyday to improve my game. Poker is the only game when i'm playing to feel relaxed, because i'm making every decision.
