I watch tv for 8 hours straight, doesnt make me an athlete, playing poker 8 hours straight is easy and you do not need to be in shape to do it, just another attempt to justify sitting on ones butt for hours and hours, its not a sport, this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard

Again, someone explain the need to make it a sport - besides trying to separate poker from other games and make yourselves feel empowered, I see no reason, its no different from any other half/skill game, and last I checked games are not sports, let it go people, we are lazy bums who play a game for money, that is it

Poker as a sport

As much as Alex Dreyfus would like to "sportify" the game of poker, and as much as I kind of like this new league that he has started, I'm just not sure how we can call poker a sport. I do think that it is a "mind game" but that is precisely what it is, a game. If I play a board game, it is not a sport. It just isn't.

That said, I hope that things like the league and talking about the efforts of others to make poker a sport will bring the game into the limelight a little more and allow for poker to get back into the limelight a little more and hopefully lead to making online poker legal in the U.S. again.

Sport is something that require physical activity and beneficial for the body and health which i'm pretty sure poker is not.

I don`t think online poker is a sport. In my opinion online poker is something like gaming play station. But don`t know how they categorize poker in real life when you play with your family it`s sure no sport, maybe only real tournaments are going towards something sportly.

You even could discuss if Chess is a sport. But I think rather Chess is considered being a sport than Poker because of the aspect of gambling.
