Sometimes if I have 10 minutes to spare I'll jump in and play, is this a bad idea and why?

I wouldn't under normal circumstances. It doesn't give you much time to find a table, sit down, and wait for the blinds to come around to you. Even then, you're probably only going to play 10-15 hands per table, hitting the blinds 2 or 3 times(depending on FR or 6M) is that really worth it?

Now with Rush poker, I would jump on and play for 10 minutes, because 4 tabling Rush I could play a lot more hands, so it would have more potential for profit.

So, no, I wouldn't play 10 minute sessions.

No. It takes at least a few minutes just to get the notion that the table has a feel to it, let alone figuring out what that particular table's feel is.

Highly -EV unless you found the 4 leaf clover just before sitting down.

Caveat might be if you know all your opponents and have massive amounts of recent hands with them.

Not enough time, you should take your time to choose the correct table (flop players, avg pot).
Then sit down, and watch your opponets so as to have a feeling of how do the play.
After that you can think about starting to play.
(Time elapsed +/- 20 min) :p

If I don´t have a time frame of 30+ minutes minimum I won´t open a table and play.

My normal session is a 30min warmup on fewer tables so no, I prefer to play a nice long 1.5-2hr session, if i can't find the time to play for that long then I won't bother.

Sometimes I think the same thing, but usually I ended up spending more time on the cash game table. That's why when I only have a few minutes, I do something else otherwise I know I'm going to be late for my appointment.

I don't like playing short sessions, because you dont know peoples ranges and they can take advantage of that. The other day I get AJo first hand button raises me. A72 rainbow pops up. He bets the pot, I reraise, he shubbs. I really didn't want call but, i thought he might be trying to bully me so i call, he shows pocket 77s. Same thing happend the day before when I had TpTk and villain shows 9 high.

Separate topic, but I'm going to hit on it because you brought it up. The situation you had would more than likely happen to you if you played with the guy for even 1000 hands if you were stacking off with top pair medium kicker... that is more than likely a terrible play in your case and I can say that without seeing the HH.

Back to topic. For me, it really doesn't have all that much on getting info on villains, because I already have my notes on the regular fish that pay me off, so it doesn't matter how long I sit down with them in a given session. It more comes down to getting onto a good table and getting your mind into the game. That will not happen in 10 minutes.

I think its ok, not great. True it takes time to figure out what people are doing what at the tables. In a ten minute session you do gain something in you are an unknown. Hard for them to figure out what you are doing in 10 minutes time. Kind of a wash to me, with you taking slightly the worst of it.

idk.. 10mins. is pretty short.
Not to say I haven't done it a bunch of times. When doing so I don't wait for blinds to post & automatically raise (or 3bet) pretty much always, lol. Establish a super spewy image & then have them stack off shortly after.

Makwa - please pm me so I can find your tables. :)

See, I thought short sessions was a good thing. Short is a relative term, short compared to what? Now for me, I thought maybe half hour to an hour is a good amount of time so that I can get in, profit hopefully, and get out before I start to lose the stack.

if you are playing tight ABC poker and hope to stack a donk - you can try 10 min sessions, however you really need longer sessions to get some reads and feel the gameflow.

Not enough time to get info on your opponents, unless you already have it in your database which is unlikely. If you are playing Rush, I don't think it matters how long or short the session is.

My mind stays at it's absolute sharp for about 45 minutes. So as a rule of thumb that's the amount of time I'll spend at a cashtable. But that's just me.

well I sometimes do as much as 10 hours a day in 3 hour intervals, and if your gunna leave after an hour, your just holding back varaince and limiting your poker education, not just on 'poker skill' but on the nature of the game and varaince

your basically implying a 'Martin Gale stratergy' in gambling its well known, your psychologicaly fullfilled 90% of the time taking small wins without going for larger scores, but you will find it demoralising when you loose 3 days work in one session, thus you will never really make enough to cover the days when you loose big. Poker is all about edges and the longterm, if you dont have poker education your edge will be smaller, and longterm you will breakeven/marginal winner or maybe even loose.
if your edge is bigger and you play alot then you see the longterm easier and you will win more, depending on your poker education.

jumping into a cashgame for only ten minutes to play may cause you to play a little bit too loose. if you play those 10 mins like a knit and try to get a big hand then you usulaly get paid off.

Hope that helps :)))

Wrong wrong wrong, Terrible idea. 10 minutes equals as little as 5 hands (especially if you have jerks at your table who are in more rooms than they can handle). So out of 5 random hands KT, a totally marginal hand becomes over valued because it may really be your best shot out of 5 hands... but what if you had just waited that little bit longer for a sixth hand.

Another mentality: I brought two bucks to this table and I'm not stopping till I hit 4. With this, you may wait forever to finally get there and you are put into some thought process... I'm winning... might as well keep playing. Truth is, I'd say it really depends on if your a bad player to begin with. If you already suck, then yes, you should sit down every chance you get and go all in every hand.

Honestly, there no reason to raise on the flop and what is he shoving with worst A 10? you dont beat much think about his shoving range
