i played at a casino and these things happened and i was wondering what were the odds of them happenening...

1. 2 players getting dealt a pair and both of them hitting a set on the flop? (set of 3s vs set of 5s)

2. 2 different players getting dealt pocket AA back to back? the werent dealt at the same time. 1 guy got AA back to back, then a few hands later my friend got them back to back.

...insane.

Not sure of the exact odds but I have seen that kind of thing happen a couple of times

Set over Set over Set is good fun

Yea, I also can't give you a number about the odds, but I now just the other day I had pocket Queens, then about 10 hands later I got them back to back. So I that's three pocket Queens in under 15 hands. Crazy things happen.

it the same game where there was back to back Aces.

i hit JJ in the beginning, then an hour later i got QQ. then for about 4 hourse i got nothing but crap cards. i didnt even see an Ace or a painted card for nearly 4 hours and i blinded myself/called a couple of suited connecters to nearly chip death. (down to 40 from 100) before i picked up A/3 suited and turned a flush to triple up. then i doubled up again with QQ..vs a board showing JJA99....i couldnt even bet.

insane. one of the worst days for me...

Hey Philty ,

respect that you have that patience.

You did the best you can.

Sorry about the odds - can't help you there

cards run in streaks it seems like. but its the times you just catch a cold run of cards that are the hardest to grind out. I sat a live action table about 7 months ago and played texas fold em for about 6 hours and only took one pot because some guy was begging me to play the hand and It hit and I got my money back and broke even then I left because it just wasn't my night to play.

thats exactly how i think. if ive been getting bad hands for a few hours now, my option is to double up and leave or if im low enough already, ill just blind myself to death in hopes of catching something. i got lucky when i tripped up on the flush, then i said a couple of hands (because i was BB) and caught QQ on the button. if i wasnt so close to the blinds, i would just up and left after my triple up.

sometimes cards hit for you and sometimes they dont. this was with 5-6 different dealers though using different deck of cards, so i guess it just wasnt my night...

Odds for sets and AA back to back

I can't give a number for set vs set, but I know it has to be about as random as AA vs AK,KK,QQ (or anyother high hand) multiplied at least twice over.

As far as aces back to back, well my best guess would be aobut 442 to 1. Although it could be higher. Since having aces is about 221 to 1 I did simple addition. But of course it is likely higher than 442.

I know the other day I was in a tournament and it was down to 21 from the original 185. Well between the time there was 21 left, and the time I was put out in 3rd place, I had pocket aces 5 times. Sure does help when you double up three times and triple up twice more.

Was playing in a Noble freeroll last night when three players at my table were dealt 66, 77, 88. The flop came 786, giving all three a set. Needless to say, Misters 66 & 77 saw their tournament abruptly ended. To make a weird hand even weirder, the button told us after the hand that he had folded KJ to the three all-ins. If he had stayed, he'd have capped them all, cause the turn/river came JJ! That's some wacky shit right there.

And for you poker nubies, just so I can say I did my part in your continuing education, if you're holding a pocket pair and the board gives you one more for 3-of-a-kind, that is called a "set". If you have a hole card to which the board pairs and creates 3-of-a-kind, that is called "trips". Despite common misnomery, the two terms are NOT synonymous. (And if you actually say "3-of-a-kind", you just sound like your Aunt Betty.)
