The best advice I'd have is to get out of tournaments exclusively now.
I wouldn't be telling him that. Tourneys is where he has hit a payout.

I would suggest that he stick to what he knows best but start playing lower priced bye-ins ($10 -$50 online weekly tourneys) than he is usually playing because you advise him that:
When people say there is variance in tournament poker they are not kidding and it can't be understated. I wouldn't wish that kind of poker life on anyone.
Many of the $10 - $50 (weekly) online tourneys pay $100k plus and with Full tilt starting up again all he has to do is wait, keep his ego in check and play his cards right on either site.

That kind of thinking doesn't make much sense, no offence. For example, the lottery pays upwards of 100's of millions, so with that line of thought he should just play the lottery. I would give the same advice to someone who has hit the lottery, and tell him to not play it anymore.

And I don't mean to burst any bubbles but "playing cards right" has little to do with winning big field tournaments in no-limit holdem, unfortunately. If you play at or below expectation long enough you'll realize how little control you have over your results.

Well, I am a small stakes tourney player only. Tourney poker is what I am good at (and trying to get better at) and I personally would never think of changing horses mid-stream.

Cash game poker requires membership in a totally different union and it would take a tourney player months and months to master it properly.

This post has been placed in the "Tournaments" thread and it is evident that you seem to think that creepst4r can't win another tourney especially when you state that he has won the lottery.

Whereas, I am saying that he can win a tourney again but should go easy on his bankroll by dropping down a level and mainly play the weekly bigs with a few of his favourite bye-ins mixed in.

And I speak from tourney playing experience:
xx_deucem_xx ITM Finishes - Full Tilt
1st - 12
1st ties - 216
2nd - 20
3rd - 24
4th-10th - 203 and with Full Tilt starting again (Nov 7th Aussie time) creepst4r can have his pick of decent sized tourneys every day of the week.

I agree with deucem tbh. I play cash every other saturday night down my local casino but half the fun of that is the social aspect.

I really dont enjoy cash that much online, have always been more of an MTT player and like deucem says, I am not sure how good an idea it would be to just swap over suddenly.

Congrats on your win !
Don´t make the usual tourney player mistakes like playing suddenly high cash games, staking etc.
If i had a big score like this i would play $5.50 - $55 all day long 24/7 lol with some $109 shots.

congrats on your win

if you can comfortably step out of your comfort zone and try few of those big tournaments, why not.
You can always go back to your lvl tourny's that you are playing if dont work out well for you.
sometime stepping up is good for a change. :)

I wish I were in your shoes (poker wise)... you have a wide variety of games to play and can even "dabble" into those $100k GT tourney's! I look forward to seeing your up and coming progressive and I wish the best of variance to you on the felt!

I joined you creepSt4r over the weekend with a large win. Not so easy to withdraw tho.

I immediately reminded myself that I suck at ring games, lost $200, largely due to having used up all my luck Sunday.

I too am unsure how to proceed. The notion of scared money no longer plays, but perhaps it transfers to 'foolish money'.

Other than that ring session, and 1 league game, I played no poker yesterday, and none so far today. It took me about a month after my previous big win to get my head screwed on right. If that is a trend, then I won't be good again till thanksgiving...:(

But I am in no rush.

Well yesterday I placed 13th in the Sunday 500 $530 buyin.

Irritating part is my all in call with AQ vs AJ lost with 14 players left crippling me with 13 big blinds.

Thats the difference between a $4500 win and a potential $77k win.

Congrats on your big win on the 15th of last month.

And that is always a brutal way to go out of a tourney when you are that doing that good and that close to the final table. Still a very nice cash though.

You should add yourself to the top CC cashes and post your big wins here...https://www.cardschat.com/forum/poker-goals-challenges-wins-46/record-big-wins-127354/
