It's so simple, if you are on a table with bad players, your chances to win increases a lot, for example, in the freerolls, the players are not to good, and if you has a base of study, you can build your bankroll in just one week to play other tournaments.:)

simple, you need to study to improve your game, I do not think you should do the example with a freeroll, it's a bit more complicated to apply your knowledge in free tournaments than in a buy-in tournament, one is less serious than the other therefore Many players play in a crazy way

You don't need to study poker but then you'll be stuck playing poker one way while everyone elses game improves. If you study poker, you'll improve your skills and hopefully get more money. You will play on many different tables, some with terrible players and other tables where the players are the best you've ever seen.

Poker is a rather complicated intellectual game in which you constantly need to develop, learn something new and apply it in practice. As soon as you stop doing it, you will start losing and your game will not bring you income.

I've seen a lot of people talking about studying poker but I didn't find a lot of ressources to learn from. Do you have good books or good videos where I could learn from ? (I speak french so if you know french books or videos that would be even better)

Yes you need to study the new trends in poker to improve your game but more important is to play and apply what you are leaning. Freerolls don't count ~ even really good players tend to gamble it up because it's free !

I think the easiest way to explain it is if you play poker you will have the chance to get better or worse regardless of whether you study. But if you factor studying into the equation along with playing poker consistently you can raise your chances of getting better at it, let alone better at it at a faster pace.

Because the game is constantly changing/evolving. Even the great Daniel Negreanu realised this last year, so he sat out for a really long time and studied/rewatched his hands and worked with a coach. He said so himself in a vlog.
If Negreanu feels the need to study more, then imagine what we would need to do ;)

It is very clear ... you must study to improve your game day by day ... if you study you will be closer to winning an important tournament and the most important thing is that you can earn a lot of money ..!

After learning the game and doing well I stopped studying my poker game. I just did not study poker as what more did I really need to learn. I did well then went on a downturn for several long months. I could not see why I was losing and blamed it on a bad run of cards. A few months late a was told to watch this one training video. OK i gave a a run and started to see what had gone wrong in my game. I looked over my hand history and saw the errors I had allowed to creep into my game. 2 months later a made a deep runs is some really large game and was finally winning again. I have never had such a downturn again as I continue to study and work on my game. As Mike Sexton used to say, No limit hold'em, it take a minute to learn and a lifetime to master.

Take one thing and deliberately practice it, regardless if you keep busting out. esp in freerolls and stuff. pratice move over and over and see what kind of spots you end up and in and then once you learn that move. Add a new one. My problem is trying to add the kitchen sink all at once and I dont do stuff right and at least totally understand what im doing. It better i feel to keep adding one weapon at a time. Dont worry about table image pratice spots that are going to help your game

is studied to improve and correct mistakes, it is not the same to play a freeroll to play a bigger tournament, and the fact that it is free does not mean that the players are not so good, many simply do not pay much attention and that depends on the tournament, at least the CC freerolls there are very good players and very serious

I remember Daniel Negreanu saying, he studied 4-6 hrs daily during the last 3 months to prepare for the PCA Highroller event, or maybe for the whole PCA, so without studying, you keep building a bankroll in freerolls, when it comes to play with the big boys, you'd better know sth about them. And trust me, it is not studying, which hand is higher than the other, it goes a little bit deeper ...

On the freerolls alone you will not be able to learn how to play poker perfectly. For this you need to play on the whole range of tables. From one-on-one to multi-table tournaments. Freerolls are only the first step in improving skills.

The game has not changed. Trends are all Cyclical. The only thing that has changed is that more people are playing at a higher level. Internet wasn't around 10 years ago, so you had to go to the casino and play 10 hands an hour. Just look at how fast one can improve just from playing online. You can literally play thousands of hands in an hour. Don't you think your rate of improvement will be greater at 3000 hands an hour rather than 10??
You study because you have t o find small edges. The game has been in essence solved, the test is to use your creativity and originality to come up with new lines and strategies to combat good players.

One needs to continually study poker because...

1. Players still have plenty to learn
2. The game keeps changing....literally....BB Ante....Action Clocks....Short Deck...etc.
3. Players behavior (poker action that is in vogue....UTG is the new button?) keeps changing
4. Status of the local economy keeps changing.....is the economy so good that everyone is rolling in money?
5. Studying keeps you engaged with the subject
6. To Be Determined because I'm not smart enough to even know all the reasons to keep studying poker

Good luck!

Study poker beacuase you want to make the most money out of it :D
Playing poker is easy, becomeing great at it is hard.

Theres alot of aspects in poker you need to know to become great.

1. The math part - poker is an odds game and knowing the math behind is important to maximaze
your value or minimize your loss in every hand. Knowing the odds behind every call, raise, bet and fold will give a huge edge.

2 tells - having good notes and information about your opponent increase your chance of succes

3 Mentality - Knowing when to play, and not playing tired, hungry, sad, angry and so on, will also increase your chance of making the right choices in any given situation.

4 Selfawareness - knowing where you win the most money is important, so you dont leak a ton of cash playing games your no good at.

5 Bankroll management - knowing what stakes to play compared to your roll is a most important factor too many playrs dont care about. Get it right at you can keep earning money for ages without going broke.

There is alot of aspect of poker you can study, and expreience is priceless if you know what to do with it. The poker education never stops ;)

If you need to study, to correct mistakes you may have, and not make them again, a player never stops learning, should always be evolving.
As you say, if you study, sucrase advantage of the other players at the table, and that will eventually bring you benefits.

Players are playing at a much higher level these day so you need to study to stay up on the trends. If you have 5 players at your table who are GTO'ers you better understand how they are thinking. Poker is in constant evolution and studying the game will help adapt to the newest trends .

Knowing the game well is giving you a big advantage in the long run...
I recommend reading some classic poker books to get an idea of what great players actually think about during a hand and discover new ways of thinking about poker that you can also apply to your game.

Why do we need to study anything... If you want to advance in your game, you need to dive deep into all the bits and pieces of it. Only by learning and observing you can elevate your game. Ad practice and frequent playing, and you can improve a lot.
