I have returned to poker after a decade absence. I have built up a small bankroll from freerolls, and am now ready to start making real money. Where should I concentrate my efforts?

Background: I have been back to playing for about 75 days, all of it in freerolls on ACR and BOL. I have over $75 saved up. My first two months I averaged $0.50 per day, and now I average $2.00 per day (past few weeks). I play no more than two tables at a time, and no more than 4 tournaments per day.

Choices:
mtts: I am good at these, getting ITM over 25% and final table almost 10%. I don't like the long game options available, often having 2-4 hours of late registration and rebuys. Best option here might be one or two (maybe $10+) games per week, when I can chisel out a six or so hour block.

SnG: I have never really played these well, but it shouldn't be hard to get good. Advantage is a set amount I could lose and short play time. Probably would have a learning curve, so I'd have to start in micro SnG.

Cash: I have done well in cash games in the past. I could get back into the flow fairly cheaply, playing 1/2 and working my way up as I feel more confident.

Others?: Should I try new things like turbo or satellites or blitz or ??


I really like freerolls and don't plan on stopping them. I'll probably continue to play one or two per day. But my goal is to build my bankroll as fast as I can.

Suggestions?

I suggest you playing only MTT. but not turbo or hyper.

I don’t know, I always lost everything when I won from freerolls. And I realized that if I won something, I would immediately withdraw it (if I won more than $ 20)

I would try and take advantage of any promotions that the poker room might be offering. Maybe there is a spin and go promotion on offer, or maybe there is a cash game challenge being offered. These help to counterbalance rake.

Thanks. If I can find mmt without the extreme late registration on ACR, I will play them. Otherwise I the tourney could go 8+ hours if I go deep.

I would definitely recommend the SNG's on ACR. The "regular" structure ones play very similar to tournaments which sounds like what you are most comfortable with. They start deeper and the blinds increase at a slower rate than most SNG's. I've been trying to build a roll from scratch on there and these have definitely been helping. The stormers home games on ACR seem to be pretty good values as well.

Put it into the highest deposit interest rate bank account without card access you can find keep freerolling and adding to it rinse and repeat these are the best ways to try to make money and avoid losing it.
Once the rake monster gets its claws on it all bets are off there is no guarantee could go either way real fast $75 dollars.

LOL. I have no intention of withdrawing under $1000. I don't think it would be worth me giving them my information. I turned freeroll winnings into a few thousand dollars a decade ago, so I know it is possible.

As much as I would love to be the next internet poker god (or even to support myself with poker earnings), I understand my limitations. I play for the fun, and strive for the payoff. If I lose my entire online bankroll, I have really lost nothing.

That said, I would REALLY like to win big.

Single table. The 9 max ones run most often.
Each of the stormers broadcast their games on twitch. The passwords show up there or some post to twitter. Most of them even have ways to win free entries either before the tournament or during late reg.

Twitch, eh? I guess that's better than only fans. I may have to sign up and look them up. I get the CC freerolls from here and the Casino.org freerolls from twitter, so I guess twitch is the next route.

I recommend small sit n goes with 6 or 9 players. Micro limit cash games are good too 1-2 cents.

The most important thing is to give up spin and go, cash games, hyper modes and hyper satellites. In such modes, a lot depends on luck and not on the skills of the player. In my opinion, this was done for fans of slot machines in the casino)) And it is worth playing if you want to have fun and you do not mind losing money.

But for those who want to grow and earn in the future, it is worthwhile to study tournament poker with normal or slow mode (or turbo, but not higher), as well as install many different services, where it is not necessary to make a deposit to participate in games (including freerolls). And then play cheap SnG, where people don't play so mad as in a freerolls))

If you are doing well at freerolls, I would just play small stake tourneys. .50-$3 or so. nice fields and sometimes some pretty nice GTD cash. Set a goal, and if you reach it, but up the amount of money you play next.

The problem I see with small stake mtt with nice GTD cash is the super long late registration and rebuy time. They need a way to increase buy ins to up the GTD, so 4 hours of rebuys are not unusual. I don't want to play 6 hours to get into min cash of pennies. That's too much like a freeroll.

If I go the mtt route, I think I'll need to risk at least $6+.60 and maybe $10+1. That way the return is worth the investment of time. A $6.60 entry with 2hr LR has a payout of $300+ for first place. That would be sweet as a first step towards growing my bankroll!

SnG are really worthy tournaments, but not in hyper mode. Even turbo is some hard to play. But of course, ordinary and slow are the best options for the game, in my opinion, which can smooth out the variance.

Last and this week I managed to get this income of $ 2-4 on average, but for the last 3 days I have been in a some depression after losing to idiots with trash cards. The river, and sometimes the turn and river, make the combination of opponents more powerful, although they should not have called my all-in.

Imo a good option is playing satellites. For example you can easily qualify to $11 tournament for less than 1 dollar. And if you will be lucky you can turn it to 1k$ But of course it will not be easy and there is always a chance that you will not even cash in it

I used to try and flip freeroll winnings on BLAST games at 888, mostly for points. I did have some luck!

I have played some of the Stormers games. They are fun and usually fishy enough to do well in. One note is to watch how quickly blinds increase and how long rebuy is. They vary from 3 minute blinds to a more natural 10 minutes. Most have about an hour rebuy.

Wow, continue playing MTT, ur really good if u manage to get FT 10% of the time in MTT's lol. Maybe you are playing really small field tourneys. With your BR I recommend playing sit and go's mixing with some MTT's, i guess u can play up to 1$ stake to take variance

This is mainly in the CC freerolls that have between 85 and 300 players (usually about 135). I am leading the Leaderboard money for this quarter with a $4.25/day average.

I think $1 SnG might be a good place, but I feel $1 mtt would be a waste. It wouldn't be much different than CC's freerolls. I have built up a $200+ bankroll, so I think $5 should be my mtt buy in. It might be a tougher game, but payout would be much higher.

Hey dude the turbos last about 3 hours - give or take making the FT will put you into the 4 hour mark. They also have hypers on ACR - but so far they are not fast events. 3 minute blinds, but 30-40 levels of late reg, so the hyper events last just as long as turbos do.

Oh - you might try the PKO events. I have not made FT on any of the ones I played so far, but have made cash several times, and they seem to go by a little faster than others.
Though - in PKOs variance will be increased - lots of gamblers, and wishful preflop players in those events.

I've tried those 3 minute blind mtt. They aren't bad. A couple of them were Stormers (Twitch) sponsored games and one yesterday was the Dollar Insanity game on BOL. Yesterday I got 43rd of 5500+ for $20. I don't know if I'd risk any more than a couple bucks on a hyper. Too much depends on luck.

I need to learn more about the PKO events. Maybe I'll give one a try this week.

Your bankroll is pretty sufficient to play micro cash games, SNGs or tournaments. My recommendation is in the beginning pick one form and focus on it in terms of study and play.

So if your favorite is tournaments play tournaments, generally smaller fields have less variance which is good in the beginning. In terms of speed of play usually slower is better as it gives you more opportunity to use your edge against your opponent and you'll overall all have a better return in the long run.

This is mainly from Cards Chat freerolls that have 135ish players. It's not hard to get ITM nearly 25% of the time when 20% of players get there. I am nowhere near a poker god (except in my own head).

I doubt my numbers would be the same in larger mtt. In a 1000 player mtt, my final table number would be close to 1%. But in a stt, I would be on the final table every time.

I think satelites are a good choice, but turbo not.

Stay away from fast fold games like zoom, they are a good way to lose a lot of money very quickly, while being addictive at the same time.

Hard to say but satellites could help to move to another level.
And if you like it, knockouts are a good option too.

I think spin & go is a good option it worked for me before but I've always tried the grand tour option

According to you, you are quite good at MTTs. Try to play satellites and cheap tournaments. If you trained in freerolls, why change to cash? In any case - good luck in your endeavors. Welcome back.

Since the thread seems legit, and not a 2 plus 2-style level, I’d think the obvious answer is play small games. 50 centers on 888. Maybe a 55 cent bounty on Party or a $1.10 fifty fifty on Stars.

Waiting for the one guy who’ll post about his four figure freeroll-only bankroll. How it’s totally legit and was built 35 cents at a time and how he’s never never ever made a single deposit but made at least 50 withdrawals.

I wish I could play at 888, Party, and Stars. As a US citizen, I am prevented for now.

I am one of those zero to four figures you talk about. I have never deposited, yet back in 2004ish, I was able to withdrawn a few low four figure checks. Since this was posted, I managed to build up over $500 in mostly freeroll winnings. I stopped playing around October, except for the occasional game or two per month. I still have over $500 spread over three sites, so maybe I'll get back into it now I have a bit more time.

On Betonline on up like $26.

Betonline is definintely a harder system, it's fast and they don't mess around. Not many choices on games either.

Now Black Chip is the Game Baby!!! Nice slow timer, and many many choices. It's by far superior over Betonline (random wise) and makeing cash wise.

I dont know if its to late to answer, but if you have so a massive bankroll,y ou can try like me to crush the 0.25$ and 1$ Spin& Gos, they are very fast and its not so hard to fourtabeling, the players are very soft and if you can play poker well, you can easily beat them. II played also at the Microstakes 0.01/0.02$, with a 10 bankroll which i made with freerolls, but i lost all, because i played too much 1$ Spin& gos, i didnt except the bankroll Management!! But i think its a good strategy, and i will try to win some freerolls and ill do it again like this!!

To multiply your winnings in freerolls, you first need to play a certain amount, and then you need to play in the casino, play roulette or blackjack.
