What is the point of Hyper Turbo SnG?

When it comes to poker, a lot of things perplex me, but very few of them perplex me as to why this exists. (Other than Badugi.) One of them, however, are Hyper Turbo 1 table Sit and Go tournaments. I usually see them as satellites to other tournaments. The blinds go up every two minutes, and each player's starting stack is a great deal lower than normal tournaments.

What exactly is the point of this? I've griped elsewhere on this forum about the possibility of losing solely by doing nothing, and nowhere is this fear in more danger of becoming a reality than with such a format. I figure a tournament with the structure I described would have a quite hard time lasting longer than 10 minutes. The thing is though, the latest example of this that I noticed also had sign-ups for a normal turbo SnG with 5 minute blind levels and a normal-sized starting stack--and those SnGs were having a much harder time getting started than the hyper turbos! Can someone please explain to me just why this "poker lite" is a thing people actually seem to like?

At first glance, this seems to be just an all in luck fest. Yet, after playing a few, I gotta say it's actually good for your overall game. How? Why? Simple - cards almost do not matter. These games are almost entirely about postition and aggression. You learn really quick what good hands are to go to battle with 4 handed, which is not a bad a thing to know. It's also about short stack stratagy. No matter how well you do, almost everyone will be a short stack. You are almost forced to go all in or fold. Rare are the hands where a full board is played or checked down.

So, lets take a look at the one I just played in, the Carbon Supersonic freeroll. With 2499 players, only 100 getting paid, It's all luck, right? Not at all. I did manage to make it to 74th for a 1.10 win. Sometimes when I shoved I had a good hand (almost any ace, any king, suited is better as always and even 22 is a power house preflop), often I shoved into the BB with questionable hands at best, forcing him to a decision for his game life which actually carries some weight in these games. Sure, eventually you run into a big pair, but how often? I didn't limp much, and if the other guy checked the flop I would bet or maybe shove with any holding, even 3rd button. I took out a lot of guys willing to chase draws (even to nothing but overcards!), which is ill advised in normal games if it can cost you the tourney. Using my postition, I was able to get a lot of folds. I would fold weak aces if facing a shove that would knock me out. So, being the agressor in these games is the best bet. Still, watch out for limpers. It does not take long to find out if they are trapping with a real monster or just a weak player. Most limpers are clueless, unless in the small blind, which is almost the only place you can get away with it. Many who limp get shoved on and are forced to fold or show up domionated by K-Q to the K-10 they thought was worth limping with.

So, overall, I'd say it's not a bad way of learning certain aspects of poker at a cheap price. My 1.10 win will only get me to a 1.10 4 way sit-n-go where I'll have to win it all to get the $, but hey, it's good practice.

Hypers are not bingo,but large portion of players play them that way... have AK and shove,guy calls with Q3o... he hit 3 and i am out,i started to follow him a bit... he shove every hand,and i mean every,i found more than one person playing that way...
I love hypers,1$ 180 man and 6max,altho 180 man requires more skill than 6max to bink it..

Convenience, volume, not forgetting there is definitely an edge to be had in hypers especially at lower stakes.
