First post so apologies if its a bit rough.

I am a very low level NLH tournament player getting back to playing after 10 years or so. Still at a very basic level but wondered what is a good/average percentage rate to cash in tournaments? Such as if cashing in 10% of tourney's played a good number. I am not referring to profitability at this stage.

Just interested to see what people think as good, standard, below par.

Since De3cember when I started I have cashed in 75 out of 605 tournaments on GG (all ranging from $1 to $5.50 tournaments) - most of these are bounty hunter tournaments also.

Interested to know your thoughts guys

Hello, your question should be answered with "it depends"

Because it is directly linked to the "buy in".

For example, if we are talking about a freeroll, where your investment was zero, a rate above 1% already makes it profitable.

But if we're talking about a $1 buy-in, you'll have to do the math to arrive at your ideal ROI (return of investment).

There are profitable players with ROI below 10%, as well as unprofitable players with ROI above 20%.

therefore, it all depends on the amount you will be investing to know the ideal ROI.

Hope this helps!

At first i say hello to you. I think a good % of itm is 30% or more. But if you win a tourney its enough if you finish only 5% or less. I have no actual percentage in how many tourneys i finish itm. At the moment i play less tournaments but if i increase my playing time i must track this percentage for me. To get an overview of my playing statistics.

hello sir After what you told me, I see that we are in the same waters. I mean it's not good to refer only to GG I don't know how you are doing with pokerstars 🤔. I started playing again too after approx. 10-12 years and I found this wonderful forum where I found answers to my questions, at least how the world approaches poker today. It is certain that something has changed, poker is the same and will be only the approach differs, today's players are very stubborn and persistent, making us give up many times.
My advice would be to play a lot of freeroll and micro tournaments, I also did that for a while but I entered the cash game and had big fluctuations, what I was winning for three or four days didn't end up on a bad day 😏.
My example was bad I lost 100-200$ in a week 😃😃😃. Good luck 👍
I think we need to listen to our colleagues and learn more.

Cashing in more than 20% of the time with Roi more than 30% is a good result.

Winning 1 - 5% is good.

I'm really not sure what question the other posters are responding to. Perhaps it's a language barrier/translation issue?

To me this sounds like you're asking, "What is a decent ITM % for nlhe tournaments?"
Top players are typically ITM 11% to 15% (but for micro stakes maybe a bit higher than this )

I think the ITM % only tells part of the story:
For example you can be ITM 30-40% of the time but still make no profit or minor profit when you only end up min-cashing all the time.

Therefore, it's more important to look at return of investment, i.e. ROI %. It takes into account the payout/win and buyins.

Obviously you should aim for a positive ROI, the higher the better.

You can find some sharks with ROI of 30-60% over thousands of MTTs but that's the rarity.

I think aiming for something between 10-20% is already a decent aim and not straight-forward to achieve. 😅

But that's just my beginner opinion. 🤓

I tried keeping records of my Winnings and Losses throughout a period of about 3 months but found it boring and did nothing to improve my gameplay, so now I have my Balance at the top of the main Lobby Where it has always been and as long as I don't Withdraw and that Balance keeps going up I am happy.
Let's be honest, If you can create a bankroll from playing a few freerolls and then use that money to increase your Account Balance, then you have to be a Profitable Player, However if you are a player who makes deposits on a regular basis and losses everything within a month or so then I would suggest going back to Poker School and learn a little bit more
Am I a Profitable Player? YES! as I have never made a single deposit on any site and made several Bankrolls from Zero.
Am I a Great Player? NO! not even close to being a great player, But that doesn't stop me from winning a few games now and again, and with a proper solid Bankroll Strategy anyone can do it.
It just takes a little Time and Patience!
